I was just thinking earlier... a few years ago THE turbo for the 2.6(for the most part) was a 66mm s300. Now, it seems that since you can get a s400 with the same inducer, to fit in the same rules, but flow much more since its essentually a bigger turbo. When does a s400 get to small and a s500 take over?
I've notice 2 trucks here lately that had s500's in a set of twins... and while I don't know the size, I assume the that some of the bigger s400's kinda "overlap" some of the smaller s500's(not 100% sure on that, just speculation) in airflow. Is that true? Kind of like some of the bigger s300 variants have bigger inducers than some of the s400 you can find.
My hypothetical question/situation is this. Which would be better, a big s400 that flows xxx lbs/min or a small s500 that flows the same?(take into account I'm not sure what a small s500 is or if they even exsist, just kinda talking out my @ss and wondering) Would the only difference be the bigger s500 would be stronger and handle more abuse than the smaller s400? (Kinda why most guys are going with a s465 over a SB, the 400's shaft is bigger, therefore stronger)
Sorry for the ramble... anyone else have thoughts on this?
PS. How big can you go on a s400? 88mm comp wheel? 90mm? How small a compressor wheel can you get on a s500?
