Looking for some first hand data/info from 06-09 CR guys who've gone from a tight housing 83 to a tight housing 96, in a single application.

Please if you can list your mods, tuning and purpose of the truck.

Current setup is a 75/83/.9 and I'm at the turbine flow limit, and looking to go 2.6/96/1.xx. So I'm trying to gauge with first hand info what the gains/losses are with said turbine proposition.

Thanks guys.

I didn't do back to back testing, but I will say I really like the 96 turbine shoved into a .90 and the 1.00. I had different engines(one was a mild ported 12V with a street cam and the other was a heavy ported 24V with a roller cam)

This is of course on a PPump puller.

Since his turbine is his restriction, I wonder where the .9 or 1.0 hogged out for a 96/88 compares in flow.

If you have x internal area in the housing with a 83mm turbine, and you bore it out for a 96mm turbine, that x area is reduced. Unless your 74?mm exducer is your restriction, I think you just made the housing tighter than a .9

I've been told that a 96/1.0 or 1.1 would perform better/flow better than my current 83x74/.9

If you plan to run a tight AR on the big turbine, you need to run a wastegate, I have seen data logs without, and they were far from ideal.

I think the .90 comes out to .76. The 1.0 is like .85. I could see 55 boost, 90 drive with the .9. How ever I saw about 55 boost and 75 drive with the 74 turbine as well.

Is this for a puller? I wouldn't be afraid of the 1.32 housing on the 96mm at all on the cheater compressor's.

It's a daily driver that competes in 2.6 out here.

Just trying to maximize my setup.

Yeah I'm seeing 55/75 right now with the 83/74 .9

Well remember the 96 was on a heavy ported big cam setup, so the boost should be lower, and it will be pushing more air through the turbine.

Les I'm running the same charger as you and thought about trying a 75/87 /1.10 or 1.xx

I would try a 1.1 t6 first.

Ive ran a 75-83/74 t4 .9 and 1.10
80-87/81 .9 t4 and t6 .8
72-83/74 t6 1.0

All 3 turbos made up to 50-65 boost and i have not checked drive. Going to the 87 turbine did make a dent in the egts. When im finished with my build im going back with the 80 and having a t6 1.1 machined for it.

I feel if you cant swing a big housing why step up in turbine size?
However the 96/87 is not the same pitch and blade shape as the 83/74 and 87/81 which are identical so maybe it would be different .

I need to stay T-4 for appearance reasons because nobody makes a 3rd gen T-6 manifold and I need to keep it in the stock location for "Visual Check" with California Smog testing.

Adapter plate $50-70 shipped. Plus you would have to change your dp to 5" outlet or you could cut that 5" off the housing and tig a 4" flange on.

Right..so if I go T-4 1.0 or 1.1 I dont have to change anything as I understand it. The T-4 housing Id be getting will drop into my current location with no DP mods.

Or are you describing something else?

Also I dont think I have the clearance to the motor mount to add a 1" or so spacer before the COMP cover contacts the mount.
