Whats the closest the relief can be to the iron top ring insert?

How bout pistons without iron, how close to the ring groove?

How deep do you need? We run .250 all the time on 12v with no issue

Thanks Jeremy. Its a different application. .250 might put me into the iron. At .250 how close is a cummins to the iron?

I will have to measure one tomorrow. I can't remember

I take .030 off the top then cut the 286110 .250 for reliefs and that was with 90+ lbs of boost and 1550+ hp

I have mahl big bowls being cut a lil over .200 and he's saying I only have .100 left. I think he might have measured wrong or something next year I'm getting forged pistons so I won't have to worrie about it but it's on my mind at the moment. Will it blow through if it gets a lot of heat on them?

I wouldn't think itll "blow through them" un coated, but even more unlikely if coated. There are guys running the .250 mark on reliefs and getting away with it.

Just my opinion. I think coating stock pistons is a waist of money
