Scan Tool??

A good scan tool is no magic wand. Being able to comprehend the info and reading between the lines is a must. Still difficult on these trucks.

BTW, my scan tool cost $3500 US dollars and still needs periodic updates that are not free either. Thinking of retiring soon, are you interested in a good used scanner?

I keep my IDS updated. Its the ford tool. Best feature is the power balance testing for 6.0L. Fire one up cold and disable cold fueling compensation. Makes life easy. Anything can pull codes. If you work on them and pretend the code doesn't exist it will make you alot better at diagnosing something.

+1 on the ids, we bought one last summer for the shop, best tool you can use on a ford. But i beleive it was about 5 grand? Autoenginuity is ok for many people, especially do it yourself. but definitly wont cut it in a proffessional application.

We used the OTC genisis. Its a good scanner but if your trying to check live data its a little slow.
