I just put my pump on drove great for 30 seconds then popped and smoked like a mother. Would barely run and filled my shop up with smoke in seconds. It slipped the equivalent of about 4 teeth on the gear sounded just like yours

Turned out it was slipped timing, set the timing back to 18.5 and adjusted the valves and everything's running great now. Thanks for everyone help, I appreciate it!
