simple afc question

Thanks guys. I just need to spend some time messing with the AFC and learning about it. I know I can't the the TST to 25psi at full open it opens before. If I try to turn the star wheel in to get to the 25psi I run into coil bind. I know that it feels better than the stock spring.

One more question if you guys could. When I'm setting the AFC for full forward on the bench do I want it full forward and what my max boost is? Say I'm making 34psi out of my stock turbo what psi do I want the afc to be full forward at for a starting base line? I know there's tuning need.
On a stock charger, the last thing you need to worry about is coil bind. Yu prob can burn the fue at half throttle with a stock charger.

You modify the afc to put it full back or you will never get rid of low end smoke. I use to have mine full foward until someone said to put it back. I'm still learning too bud hang in there. LOL

on a bosch bench stand without a plate and with a stock afc the governer arm falls under the afc foot at full boost anyways so even with a stock afc and a mack plug we still saw 21mm rack travel this was my experience at least it was on a 175 pump anybody experience anything different? does it vary on different pumps?

This doesn't make much sense. The rest of the pickup is not stock, just the charger. If I've got a fuel plate and small injectors?

Your pump is capable of more fuel than your charger can burn.

Just worry about cleaning up the bottom, I wouldn't worry about coil bind on a stock charger.

In other words, no need for full fuel with a stock charger. Coil bind could limit full fuel.

I get what you're saying now. But don't I still want to get to full travel. I understand the tuning the smoke thing and after learning a few new things have a better idea of how to do it.

Full travel = full fuel

Stock turbo trucks I set at 25 for full fuel on the bench with a hand held regulator and you can do that with the TST spring adjusting the star wheel as tight as it takes to stay out of coil bind, set it on the pump with that air pressure on it, push it forward till the arm (now pushed forward by the air pressure) once it's bottomed out in the plate put the AFC screws in and tighten them up then take the air pressure off the AFC and finish everything up.

If in person I could show you this allot better, everyone I show this too get's it quick, kind of like doing online college classes....urrrr :)

You need to do a YouTube video of this. LOL

Thanks again Jim. I've got about 4 hours tomorrow to mess around with this to try and figure it out. Your explanation makes perfect sense. And then from here I would make my 1/2 turn adjustments on the smoke screw.

I really need to make an jig. Anyone have measurements?

Back the pre-load screw all the way out when assembling the AFC, then turn this adjustment until it begins to move the lever, tighten the lock nut. This is the lowest starting point, if you need more low end fuel turn this adjustment in until desired.

With the AFC pulled full back.. I have cut my starting fuel off/down takes a long crank or little pedal fuel..

So i now need to turn in the pre-load screw till is starts easier like it did before (stock) AFC??

Thanks!

If I am thinking correctly, yes

Depending on how the Gov springs are set you might try one more click on each to help starting, might help or it might make it hang a bit.....every pump is a little different, sometimes I teach myself, mostly by mistakes :)
