Sled Pull Results

Big papa, I don't think y'all were only ones cause wes kuselik was going around asking if anyone had a welder cause they needed a secondary hitch & didn't have one. He hooked so I'm guessing they came up with something?

There were a few trucks that had to fab up secondary hitches that day.

PPL posted the 2012 rule changes a few months back. It's right on their website.

Here's the rule changes. I don't see anything about a safety hitch.

PPLRULECHANGES2012A.jpg

My point is, why suddenly start enforcing a rule they haven't in the past? Why wasn't it enforced on 2.6? What was the deal with having a safety hitch or you can drop 200#? How does dropping 200# equal a safety hitch? You've already dropped from 8K to 7800, chances are you can't cut another 200. If you've pulled under their rules twice before with no tech issues, wouldn't you think all you need to worry about are the changes posted?

Carnage was good this year. Lots of bent traction bars and broken drive lines. Never seen a track as Tacky as this one was.

I'm no puller and don't know com'mer from sick'em about it....but I can't imagine anyone making a track stickier than that one. It looked like the red clay on my dirt road after a rain. Playdooh'y. I haven't been to a lot of pulls in my life, but I can't imagine the frames bendin' up in the middle any more than some of the trucks that pulled.

I didn't get a lot of great pulls recorded, but here's one that turned out ok.

My point is, why suddenly start enforcing a rule they haven't in the past? From personal experience, I know it's not always easy to tech all trucks all the time, even with good teching things get missed. Also if it's in the rules it can be enforced at anytime....unfortunately it doesn't mean it always does Why wasn't it enforced on 2.6? See previous comment What was the deal with having a safety hitch or you can drop 200#? How does dropping 200# equal a safety hitch? That one I have ZERO clue about, unless it was a comprimise of you were a dumbass and didn't read/follow the rules, but yet we still want to put on a show, so you can pull without the secondary hitch but at a 200lb penalty. What I don't understand is if the secondary hitch is for safety, why compromise? You've already dropped from 8K to 7800, chances are you can't cut another 200. From the looks of the weights on some of those trucks an extra 200 shouldn't have been TOO hard If you've pulled under their rules twice before with no tech issues, wouldn't you think all you need to worry about are the changes posted? See first quote again

In General:

If you read the rules, knew about the secondary hitch, and do nothing about it during previous pulls and then cry about it finally being enforced....you are an idiot.

IF you had asked the proper officials about the rule and they said you didn't need to prior to coming, but then decided to enforce it when you arrived that's a tough one.

While I agree selective enforcing sucks, if it was in the rules and you did not follow them......it's on YOU. If it was something concocted AT the pull, that's a different story.

Again teching is tough, some events time/weather/etc is an issue so they do a quick visual, hitch height, weight and on the track you go, with no post tech. If you sneak something through and don't get caught.....it is what it is. If you get caught though...it's on you.

If you knew about the rule before, set up your truck to follow the rule, you have the right to protest anyone who doesn't follow that rule. If you chose not to on your truck......

It's like getting pulled over by the cops for going 20mph over and saying you only did it because the guy in front of you was going faster/same speed and you didn't pull him over....

No crying going on here, chief. The truck didn't get to pull because it didn't meet the rules. You're right, that's on me and I guarantee it won't happen again. I asked if there were others that didn't get to pull because of the sudden enforcement of the rule in one class. I asked 5 pertinent questions in my 2nd post. Where do you get "crying" from anything I said?

You said it, "selective enforcing sucks".

LOL!! You dont like my buddies welding?? Those things were put on 3 years ago late one night and who knows what else might have been involved! They've held up to over 100 hooks, if they aint broke, no need to fix them! I only moved the sled a few inches anyways, the poor thang dont even have enough power to pull itself let alone break those traction bar welds, lol!

Looked good on the exhibition hook. What happened the first time?

Some how my clamp came off the holds my intercooler pipe to my side draft intake... Not sure how, cause it was on when i parked it after tech and weigh in. It fell off in the pits as i was driving it to get my hitch re measured. Found it after i tried to pull of course.

Yeah it looked like very little penetration. But if all you need is a little penetration then you better keep her.

Just a clamp? That sucks!

yep just one v band clamp kept me sitting on the line

Man I hate to hear that! I was looking forward to seeing your truck make a good run in person. What are the chances of a vband clamp falling off right before you pulled? Sounds like you have luck about like me LOL

Sorry. It seems you understand the situation though. I get a little touchy because I've been places where guys know the rules and chose not to follow them and then cry about something being enforced. I was making a general statement and was the reason I put "In General:", but I can see how you thought I was responding directly to you as I quoted your comment. I tried responding to your comments in red within your quote and then make a general statement afterwards. If it came across differently, I didn't intentionally do it.

Edit: If I thought you were "crying" I would have put "Stop Crying" in my direct response to you...just for future clarification. :Cheer:

No hay problema.

We'd pulled at 2 PPL pulls last year with no problems, so we figured we were good at this one as long as we met the "Changes for 2012" section. Just didn't make sense, especially the "safety hitch or drop 200 pound" part. Like I said, it won't happen again.

TS 2012 :: Pull.mp4 video by 4x4dually - Photobucket

Were you guys at TS??? Track was done very nice, but tacky??? Most trucks when the sun went down had one heck of a time getting the sled moving very fast due to the slime on top... Clay when moist is ok wet clay = slimey...

The 3.0 side was awful until about the 200' mark, then the trucks started to hook up. I thought the 2.6 side was pretty dang sticky. Maybe not as much on the beginning, but at the big end, it was definitely tacky. There were several trucks that didn't have the power to keep the tires spinning at end, and just about every stout truck was bowed over in the middle. I also thought there was a decent bit of carnage. I had a pretty awesome spot, right around the 250' mark on the 2.6 side, literally right beside the track.
