which is harder on the truck?...had the discussion with a few buds last night and im wondering what you all think

I would say pulling also, but thats an argument that opens a big can of worms LOL

Seems the d70 is fine at drag racing but not at pulling. Food for thought.

With sled pullin there is more load on the drivetrain for sure. As far as the engine is concerned They are both at WOT for 12seconds or so. So, that aspect is about the same IMO other than there is a lot more air running across the IC with racin

i have read that more people break things with drag racing with all the boosted launches and what not but i think sled pulling is a little harder on the truck. drag racing its the initinal launch that you have to worry about then its pretty free flowing the rest of the way sled pulling your pulling 30K+ for 300feet that is hard on everything i would think

Another thing to factor in is that in racing, you are making your truck as light as possible... that takes stress off alot of parts, but it pulling you are adding weight(generally, to include the sled) and this adds stress to each part. And in pulling, since the weight goes up the farther you pull it, the more stress is added with each foot. Most breaks I see in racing are in the first 1/8 mile in pulling most breaks you see are over half track. Just my $.02

my tranny guy tells me pullin.way harder on tranny.i told him i dragrace and when should i get it back here to freshen it up?"dont worrie about that if thats all you do with it." is his answer.we will see!? but i am not a track junky so i see his point.

Pulling!!! I have never heard of a drag racer breaking a Profab transfer case and 2 F106 Rockwell. Which i have done.

right on guys...all of this info is great. only gods knows when i will get a new trans but once i do id like to build the rest of the truck. im thinking a 600 hp combo with a stronger rear diff and trac bars should be good for an all around truck

I've never heard of one using them either;)

Not arguing, but it can go both ways.

Both can be hard on trucks...as for which is harder on them, I don't know...but as much stupid crap as I've broken racing, I'm not sure if I wanna find out what breaks pulling!

Chris

holy hell not this discussion again, both are hard on trucks, some guys race HEAVY trucks and dont remove weight, but u won't see me sledpulling that chit is rough on trucks and I don't like big heavy scary things ramming at my behind LOL

Pulling no doubt. The boosted launches are harder on parts than anything in drag racing IMO. But you are doing a boosted launch with 40k lbs behind you pulling, along with spinning and fighting for traction the whole way down the track.

In theory, racing; in practice, pulling.

If you were looking for the best way to break parts it would be racing, because there is more opportunity for traction. Put four slicks on a 4x4 truck with a transbrake and you will probably be able to shear crankshafts in half... But the envelope in racing is a lot clearer and the edge is easier to avoid; in sledpulling, loads are a lot more dynamic and you can't do the exact same thing every time to avoid breaking parts.

A crazy drag racer will break something every time, a sane drag racer will hardly ever break anything; but even the most cautious sled puller is going to break parts occasionally.

I have broke a front u-joint and a d70 twice sled pulling, And broke an output shaft drag racing.

Brett(dzlfarmboy) has broke a billet input and billet output drag racing and stock intermediate on the street, And sled pulling he has snapped 2 d70 pinions and an output on his transfer case.

So from my experience I would say one isn't any harder than the other!! Its about 50/50

Thanks Will....
