smarty and edge

i have a edge juice with the monitor and really like the monitor part of it verses all the gauges. i finally got a smarty pod the other day. If i leave my edge off can i still use it as a monitor with the smarty? other delima is i have a set of twins on the way, where dose the edge read boost of off? Might have to go to gauges if i can pick up a boost signal.
