South Bend vs Kennys Pulling Parts Clutch

haha.. this thread is great.. alot of guys have experiance with one or another.. so.. your not going to get much info out of this.. i have a SBC and had great luck with peter top notch guy great info and the phone is on over there you can reach him whenever.. all in all a great guy.. as for kennys ive never delt with him so i can say anything bad or good..

I have used them both. Like I said in my earlier post, the Kennys clutches do not break covers like the SBC.

For Sled pulling, I would not even consider a SBC - had to fix way too many that melted trying to get a sled moving. If your going to sled pull get a pulling clutch - Haisley, or Kennys.

I have seen every make or model clutch from stockers to $$$$$$ top of the line pulling clutches melted down on the line.

NO clutch is designed to compensate for lack of HP or poor gear selection.

Now you guys have me worried. Dont want to be replacing the pressure plate fingers all the time. Called South Bend and Kenny today. Both said that daily driving on the finger pressure plates with high plate load have a tendancy to break pins. So any brand has the possibility of breaking. Anyone have good luck pulling a diapraghm style or will it just not hold the power. Also how often do the pins break on the finger style? Thanks:confused:

Well Peter @ SBC has been really good to me and is a great guy to work with. I talked with a ton of different clutch guys before deciding on what to go with. I looked at every brand from SBC, Valair, ED, Kenny's, LUK...etc but I decided on SBC after how helpful and nice Peter was to work with. I would recommend SBC to anyone. Peter will treat you right and he makes some great clutches for any application.

The Haisley Street puller is a diaphram clutch.

Ya and I have bent the fingers on a diaphram clutch too! They ALL can break at ANY time. You can only make your own decision when it comes to which clutch to choose, talk to all of the companies that you can and make your decision based on the one that you feel comfortable with.
Here is a picture of the Haisley's Diaphram style pressure plate.

I have put tons of diff clutches in by both companies kennys first desighn was horrible trying to press in but that clutch would hold anything you could put it threw every single southbend clutch that has hit the pulling track so far after about twenty hooks something always breaks three flywheels so far have broke in half we had four diff pressure plates that always loose a finger but like everyone says peter is a super guy and fixes them as for now daily driver clutches I cant say one bad word of the mcleod street twin my question is has anybody used or had one of there street/ sleedpuller clutches!! project truck is coming out soon and I would like to use the mcleod if possible only problem is I think its only rated to 4,000rpms and I will be going about 5,400 I just dont want the hard shift slow shift b.s again any suggestions before I drop alot of cash again

I have 25,000 miles, 10 hooks, and countless burnouts on a SBC 3850 Ceramic Street Comp with absolutely no problems... I won't install or sell any other clutch.. You just can't beat the customer service..

PLZ PLZ PLZ go with a kenneys! I have kennys weighted triple disc and proably paid as much for is as some guys pay for southbends dual disc.

I adjusted all last year with my 3850 Valair through Chicago and Houston traffic for about 3 months. I hated the plate load but when we tore the truck down it looked pretty good for what it's been through. 6 hooks and 28000 miles.

SBC or Haisley, Had bad dealings with kenny, Bent over backwards to help him desighn a real clutch for a psd, even gave 1k up front, took almost a year to get it from him it was a disc smaller then i ordered not sfi approved and no ring gear on it. Then it took me another year of complainin to everybody i knew and he finally took it back.

Stick with a reputable company

kenny clutches

A few of you guys have mentioned running a triple disc, what does one cost?

$2300 is what i paid for my triple. i have used kenny's for a few years now and have had great results and experience with his products and him personally. even his first dbl dsk design. that got beat on relentlessly. i have installed at least 10 of his clutches since i started using his in other peoples trucks (single and dbl) and i can allways call and get help when i have a issue. and never had a breakage issue that resulted in his parts.

compare prices talk to the different vendors and make your decision.

the shop that i have been using has started keeping a few of his clutches on the shelf and is a little cheaper that whats on kenny's site if anyone would need one in a hurry.

Took cash to bowling green to buy a sbc from the vendors. They didnt bring a clutch to sell. Guess ill have to wait till indy.
