Sporratic timing and other crap

Did you try the apps?

Funny, mine started doing the dead pedal the other day. Check engine light came on and its the apps out of range IIRC. Its not as recurring as yours mine will just do it at any given time and then it may not do it again for a few days but may do it 3-4 times in one day.
 
Definitely starting to sound like the ECM from your symptoms. The only other thing that comes to mind would be a sensor wire that was broken, but makes contact after it warms up or something stupid like that, but that should set a DTC. If you've got a spare APPS laying around you can try it, but I highly doubt thats the problem...but like the rest of us I have been wrong before!!!
 
Changed out the APPS last night, it didnt dead pedal on the way home and the timing thing is still going on.

My engine and ECM are from an auto trans truck, starting to wonder if it is looking for the trans that isnt there...? It would be sooo nice if I could check my DTC's.
 
Have you checked the MAP Sensor? Every few months my truck will start to rattle louder than normal like the timing is way off and my Quadzilla will say 56psi boost just idling. It seems to spool slower when this happens. If you try to start out in first with no load does it miss and blow some white/blue smoke when you let off? If I clean the connections on the MAP plug it goes back to normal.
 
MAP is functioning normaly. I replaced it months ago. ECM is the only thing i havent changed.
 
Does the ECM even care if there is an auto trans there? I thought that was all controlled by the PCM?
 
I'm not sure. I have never messed with the autos and didnt really care to learn honestly. Thats about all that can be possible. now.
 
did you check supply voltage to the cam and crank sensor? the sensors should all ohm out to between 900-1100 ohms IIRC
 
Friends truck would do something similiar to this and it would throw a apps code. Changed it and still did it. I believe it is a time thing cause it would run perfect and same distance from the shop it would act up. Swapped in a different ecm for another 01-02 6spd truck and it fix it.
 
Havent checked the supply voltage, just been throwing parts at it really.


I need to find an ECM to try out. I would be ok if it just acted up on occasion, my issue is the bastard runs like crap then decides to run normal for a while. LOL
 
Thats on the list. I doubt it is the issue, after I swapped crank sensors the hard starts stopped. This thing has a serious electrical gremlin.
 
sorry to hear it man. these things can be frustrating man.

im going thru a hard start/ rough idle issue right now with my CR and its killing me as well. i HATE when things arent top top, ya know?
 
Its aggrivating. Almost enough to make me want to ppump the damn thing.
 
Hit the dyno yesterday, 452 with no electronics on.........456 with them on. Looks like I need an ECM.
 
Changed ECM's (thanks to Forrest Nearing). Problems are gone.

And with no wire tap I can pull 50psi from a 66/74/0.91
