Standalone Transmission Controller

I'm sure you are already aware, but it would still require the electronic valve body from ATS (or someone else if they make one) if you wish to control 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear shift points... Otherwise, not needed...

It's been too long since I messed with a auto trans, but is Governor pressure the same as your line pressure (affects shift firmness)? If so, I thought the 47/48 transmissions only had a manual adjustment for this (not PWM controlled)?

That's the one thing I didn't like about my setup in the Excursion (Using the PCS controller)...

Mines fine, I just want the adjust ability that comes with it, but Lyns truck goes into overdrive and lockup at 36mph and its way to soon and he'll kill his converter if he doesn't do something.

But Lady's first, so you can have the first one LOL

In this case, I'll take that! Tell Lyn to kick OD off:hehe:

Right, we know...but my transmission hit's 3rd gear at 25mph, and if I let it, it locks in OD at around 40mph...I want this to be able to control where it locks up (around 50mph), and also where it hit's 4th gear (around 55mph). All automatic, instead of having to do what I've been doing for the last 2 years, and locking out OD every time I stop, and locking and unlocking the converter when I want. I can deal with the 3rd gear at 25mph, but I'd rather have it around 40mph.

Not to mention, I'd rather not have anything ATS in my tranny anyway...regardless of the fact that I've not heard anything good from that standalone valve body.

Pick Me! Pick Me!Pick Me! Pick Me!Pick Me! Pick Me! If it works as good as it sounds I'm game. Is it adjustable on the fly? I was thinking on full throttle run you'd probably want higher mph for overdrive and lockup. Daily driving is really annoying right now especially pulling a trailer.

I asked him if we could have a driving and a race mode...I don't think I ever got an answer!

Chris

its adjustable on the fly, don't know how he'd do the race/ daily drive mode tho.

Push button override would be a nice option.
My brother has the Ats setup on a 47re he is having problems with it but the truck had electronic issues with the trans before it was put on.

Governor pressure is not the same as line pressure.

joefarmer, is that an Arduino board you're using?

Just to squash this rumor, an ATS VB is NOT required with what I'm doing. I repeat, an ATS VB is NOT required.

I suppose it could have a race mode and a street mode. It just doesn't sound very fun to have a standard mode.

Governor pressure is not the same as line pressure.

YES!! Arduino!!! I'm debating about porting to straight AVR and copyright the code. Or keep it Arduino and release it under the Creative Commons license.

Cool. My dad and I (more my dad though) are working on using an Arduino board and display to do a standalone engine monitor/warning display. We have most of the sensors we plan to use calibrated now and are finishing up some stuff for a trial run. Projects like this are fun...

I've been kicking around the idea of doing a very similar tranny controller. Do you have any plans to market this? If not would you mind sharing the code with me? You can PM me if you would prefer not to discuss it here...

PCS makes the controller and has excellent customer service BTW... ATS sells a valve body for the 47/48 transmissions to use with this controller and markets the PCS controller as their own. And the ATS customer service sucks... IMO

joefarmer let me know when your done testing cuz i would like to install it as soon as possible cuz these toggle switches are gettting OLD. i works as a good deterant for people not to drive my truck but... its time to change it. let me know FOR SURE. i have a 47rh and im only interested in LU and OD.
thanks

I've got 10 million things kicking around my head after playing with Arduino for a couple of months! I wanted to do a data logger like that, but the sensors are what is expensive, not the controller.

Depending on the demand, I am considering marketing it on a very small scale. Most of my projects turn out about 85%. Meaning, they work but aren't pretty or refined. The general public normally cares about form over function, so my designs are typically overlooked.

One problem that would keep me from manufacturing this one is I don't have a source for the transmission harness connectors. My research leads me to believe the company supplying Chrysler/Dodge/Mopar with the 47RH connectors went out of business and Dodge doesn't have any more.

I hear ya! That's why I decided to design this one. I do need to make sure it's a good design and very fool-proof. It also has to pass the 'monkey test'. I don't expect anything marketable until Q3 2009 or later.

go to the junk yard and steal em off the earlier 2 gens and the earlier 90's dodge vans with LU/OD. thats what i got my connector from.
