Just wandering if anyone has experienced a gurgling noise in the cab from the heater core at start up.I was reading a thread that had mentioned that but they never explained what caused it.The truck never used to do it I'm thinking maybe that 48 pounds of boost is effecting my head gasket and sucking air somewhere. There's no leaks and the oils good.Thanx Mark....

I know that Cherokees are notorious for having trapped air in the system and making a gurgling sound at start up... I would try and burp the cooling system. :Cheer:

I've ran the truck with rad cap off many times to get rid of any air but still does it.It only seems to do it when truck sits over a period. How should I burp it? I've even changed rad cap. Thanx Mark......

I think its just the nature of the beast.

I just changed my heater core last winter, because my heat sucked. Now I can sweat in the cab when its -20f out.

I have gone as far as a coin vent plumbed in and it still gurgles when I first start it.

Same here. Both my 01's do it about every morning.Been doing it since new.I stopped worrying about it along time ago.

my 01 hasn't started doin it yet. i would try flushin the cooiling system as well as the heater core. if you have a bad head gasket it would likley be pumping air(compression) into the radiator and overflow tank. that you would notice cus you would loose power. otherwise just check and make sure no head bolts are loose, retorque them. a cracked head is even a possiblity.

Like I said its just the nature of the beast.

I have everything new from radiator to heatercore to new cylinder head oringed and studs.

my automatic truck does it, but not my stick truck.. I think it has alot to do with that transmission cooler plumbing nightmare..

is your radiator cap functioning properly and is your overflow bottle full?

When either of my Dodges did it, I knew it was time for either a retorque or a headgasket if I wait long enough. Kind of like a early warning system for the headgasket.

Interesting Brandon...

Mine only did it after some fairly serious mods, which was most likely the first time the system was opened, other than the radiator cap.

After about a month of hard driving/racing it blew a headgasket and did some other bad stuff. Of course this was NOT the sole cause!!

Thanks for the replies I see I'm not the only one thats seeing this noise.I'm glad u chimed in Joefarmer cause it was one of your posts that mentioned what the problem could be but u never did say. Also I notice when I really get into it hard it'll spit antifreeze out of the cap or jug hard to tell exactly where.I've already changed rad cap.Do u guy's figure it's time to do head gasket.I also notice truck lost 3/10's seems to miss at higher rpm's would antifreeze getting into one cyl. maybe.Overflow bottle is right where it should be. Thanx Mark......

Are there any good write ups on how to change the heater core. Well im sure its easy but how about how to take the dash off, i think thats the hardest part. maybe like the locations of ALL the bolts that hold it on.

Are you a member on TDR?
There was a good writeup in one of the magazines.

Heres a partial writeup.
Only thing I dont like is how he cut the new heater core and used hose and clamps to hookup the old to new lines.
It doesnt take much longer to do it right.

Might as well, better safe than sorry.

I know if/when I hear in my truck again, I'll be doing a retorque at the very least.

Mines been maken those sounds for the last 50,000 miles....:hehe:

While I guess it's time I knew it would be sooner or later.Maybe time to o-ring head already. Thanks for replies Mark.......

My 01 did it for a while, before my water pump shat the bed on me. I replaced the water pump and the noise stopped.
