just finalizing everything for my 5 speed swap. I have a isspro trans temp gauge for my 47re thats in right now. how effective is it on the nv4500? and is drilling and taping the top cover the best place for it? ive thought about selling/trading and get a fuel pressure gauge to fill the hole in the a piller.

Put your temp probe in the PTO cover. If you screw it up, just get anothe cover. It needs to be low enough to be in fluid. And it saves you from taking the console out of your truck to get to it....but that wouldn't work anyways so no contest here.

On the 5600 you drill and tap one of the pto cover on the side. That way the sensor is in oil all the time. On the top cover it would only get splashed. Only downside is you will be draining all the oil. If its fresh, save it and put it back in when you're done.

I just drilled and tapped the cover on mine, no bung

There is no pressure to speak of on it but it would be nice to drill a thru hole and put a nut and o-ring behind on the inside so you don't have to worry about it. But make dang sure the nut is lock-tite'd so it don't come off and destroy crap.

I doubt it. Buy one from a salvage for a few buck, drill it and tap it. See if it works. Keep modifiyin' until you like it. Then swap the one of the truck for it. Then you have a spare if you ever delete the sensor or it goes to leakin'. Throw it in the tool box and you'll have it if your probe comes out 300 miles from home. You can throw the original back on and add oil and travel. $.02

that sounds like good idea. i wonder how hard it would be to come by one of those. i went and tried to find a slip yoke for a nv4500 and they looked at me funny and said they've never even had one of those transmissions in their lot.

Oh yeah haha I misunderstood, I thought he meant the pto cover is standard on the nv4500 lol sorry displacedtexan

I personally think temp gauges on manual trannys are not only a waste of time, but not necesary. If you want to see the temps, then ok, but another monitor is more justified.

All of our OTR trucks have temp gauges on the trans and rear ends, why shouldn't a pickup?

Fair enough. LOL

I don't gross 80k either, my NET is 80k sometimes
