Timing Indicator Issue

Has anyone had an issue with the 12 valve timing kit from PDP? It seems that the pin in mine does not go down far enough to get a reading.

are you sure you put the extension on the dial indicator first?

did you loosen the set screw holding it up?

I loosened the set screw. Did not put the extension on. Instructions didn't say anything about that. I'm new to setting timing, but I'll learn eventually lol
