Not sure if I qualify as "fast", but we are running tighter than stock converters. They still stall out at over 3000rpm if given the chance, but will walk through the brakes at starting at 2500rpm.
Stall speed is a function of torque, the more torque applied, the higher it stalls.
I guess the big question is, "If I tighten it up, can I still get up on the charger when staging?". This appears to be perhaps a tuning question more than a converter question. Even with a tighter than stock converter, I can stage a GT4202 just fine. However on another truck with the same converter and about the same HP, I had a hard time spooling a GT4294, the difference was the tuning.
A tighter converter will put more power to ground, so run the tightest one you can still spool.
