Let me tell you 1st and 2nd gear in this truck is incredible...but my torque converter is going in and out of lock up and I can't do under fifty five in overdrive without it going in and out...

I am a little absent on transmissions but i have had a mechanic tell me that there is another lock up occurrence immediately after the shift into overdrive?

But as of now my tranny shifts like torrets and I have zero codes.

Any help is awesome!!!

Take a 220uf capacitor and hook the one end to a good ground and T the other end into the PCM power supply. You can get them at radio-shack for a few dollars.

you could do a pot which will let you lock it up whenever you want after 40 but it wont unlock unless to turn overdrive off or slow down

A pot or 33ohm resistor wired to ground through a switch only makes a manual torque converter control. A capacitor on the other hand kills stray A/C voltage in the electrical system which is the root of the erratic TQ converter shifts.

I am liking your diagnosis to this problem, your use of the word erratic describes how this thing is shifting right now. I mean whats weird though if it is under load everything is smooth, i can pull a huge trailer and not get one skip from anything.

That sounds a lot like an APPS issue to me........

funny you mention that, lock up is suppsoed to occur around 40 to 45 and when i turn and the truck is still in 3rd gear it immediately tries to lock up but then starts skipping in and out in and out like it knows the truck is struggling. But wouldn't an APPS strike a code?

Replace the TPS if you want to spend the money! A capacitor is only a few bucks and will most likley fix the problem permanently. PM me and I'll give you better insturction on the hook-up.

Ok, define the APPS sensor, i mean i know what it stands for but compared to the TPS what do these sensors control with the transmission?

APPS = accelerator pedal position sensor found on the 24 valve cummins.
TPS = throttle position sensor found on the 12 valve cummins.
In reality both sensors do the same thing for transmission control but on the 24 valve it also does throttle control.

Sorry for the confusion in the previous post!

Fair enough and makes sense. If this method that we PM'd about doesn't work how could I test the APPS sensor?

suncoast has a fix for this.the black wire with yellow line off the tps needs to be grounded it worked for mine.ground both wires.i did a search on google and found the suncoast post hope this helps.it could be other stuff but this fix is almost free.
