The trans does lock up the tcc in 3rd, as well as O/D.

3.55 gears by chance? At the speed you are talking about, you should have the O/D locked out anyhow. Keep it locked out til over 45. Shouldn't hunt then. If it does, then you have a problem elsewhere, that is causing it.
 
yes 3.55 exactly and funny you mention 45, because in some situations the tcc is engaging around thirty five and that's when it starts to hunt. o/d when engaged around 45 it starts bouncing all over creation till upwards of 55 and sometimes still skips (hunts)
 
Something to check would be the TV cable. It's more or less the kick down cable.

Have someone get in the truck and hold the pedal to the floor, obviously with the truck turned off.

Crawl under the drivers side and check how much play is in the TV lever still. If it is alot, then just bend the bracket backwards a little. You want about 1/4 of an inch of play.
