Traction Bars are on(With Pictures)

I'm in the process of making my own ladder barsfor my regular cab truc and I dont know how long to make the bar's . I've heard lots of diffrent ways, I pull a trailer alot and plan on doin sled pulling and want it to work the best for what I'm doing.

Honestly I dont think it matters how long the bars are. Its how parallel the bars are to the frame of the truck. They way i mounted mine, they really dont have much angle at all to them. Its just that longer bars are easier to make parallel, so that is why most people use them IMO.

I have short ones on mine like above. My frame is bending and I cant control wheel hop. They are getting taken off and longer ones installed.

I don't see how length of a traction bar is going to eliminate HOP. can you explain what the geometrical difference does to lessen the up and down motion?

its because when you load the axle it wants to walk the pinion up the ring gear (axle wrap) instead of turn the wheel when it gets under enough load (and makes the leaf springs S shape)the tires will spin or hop and it unloads the rear-end (and springs) then loads up again. Back and forth really fast. The bars prevent the axle from twisting there by stopping the hop (axle wrap). the up and down action is created buy the springs flexing and then rebounding = wheel hop.

Here are the bars I made and I have no axle hop with my 38x15.50's or sled pulling with 295's

there only 1 3/4" but there 1/2" wall.

My ends and linkage bushings came in Saturday morning. Now that we have a welder I'll be building some for myself.

I never had any wheelhop before the bars, even pulling, but the axle would wrap just a little pulling with blocks. The truck is a lot stiffer feeling now though. Should get to pull it a few times this summer.

Thanks, it seems like mostly i have just been criticized, so a compliment comes as a surpriseLOL

Ill measure them sometimes soon and let ya know

They look good to me. Most people just want to down things if they cant or wont do it or its not exactly the way they would do it. I got a lot of grief over mine when I made them.

How long are yours as well 1stGen?

Yeah I hear you CumminsDriver, I have built a few bumpers in the last few years and the last one ended up on my buddies truck before I was done and I got ridiculed like a mother for it. Not exactly the same but you get the jist of it lol.

Both sets of bars look good, and as far as the length unless you are going very extreme with pulling I don't see much of a problem. Plus it wouldn't be too hard to just cut and extend them if you really needed to...

There a little over 5ft. I saw a guy that had a set for his ford that were almost 7ft long and almost 4" pipe. I think thats a little much even for a pro mod truck.
