Tranny swap 47RH for an Allison AT-545

Hey All,

Just wondering if any one has used an Allison tranny swap for a 47RH. I see that some Bluebird busses with 5.9 cummins use the AT-545 tranny. Are they any better or will ever fit?:badidea:

I can rebuild the old one but who's parts are best?

I didn't think the allison 545 had an OD did it?

No OD and very few had lock up. And its fuggin huge.

I have a MT643 I'd trade for a 47rh. I even have the engine bell housing and flex plate and starter. And these are huge compared to a 545. LOL

Dont those have lock up? Either way its rated for at least a 37k GCVW or up to 73K.....may be stronger than a 47rh

Yes, it has lock up and could be stronger than a 47rh. But it is huge and heavy. I've been saving it but have not found anything to put it in yet. LOL I think you're right, 37k GCVW or so.

Yep,

Swapping out a 47rh for any other type of automatic transmission is a complete and utter waste of time.

OK then what is the bang for your buck when looking at a 47RH tranny that only 20k on it and has a cold slip issue. Torque converter and valve body and from who, which is the best. I do tow a big 5th wheel. The reason I got on this web site is the great advice from actual users like you guys!! Thank you for the help!! Owen

Seeing how you're in Wisconsin, I'd have to say call Goerend transmission. You might spend a little more than you want to for one of their complete transmissions, but it's well worth it in the long run! I'd definitely get a Goerend TC, VB, and a good cooler if you don't do a full trans.
