Truckers, lets see your rigs!

For a stationary high load setup you'll probably want to stay inside of cats settings. You might call a good dealer with the serial number and they could tell you if they can rate it up.

What can be done to turn up a 350hp 3406E? How much power can they be expected to make reliably? I was told they have several different parts vs the higher horse 3406Es. We have one in a truck mounted hammer mill and are looking to run a larger mill

If it's been overhauled it's probably got all the same parts as the 550hp. The early 435hp and below came with alum pistons and single jet oilers. Cat stopped offering that kit and as far as I know every one was automatically updated to the steel tops and double oilers. So you probably just need an ECM flash. I would make sure the pistons were steel thought.

We had a 365 hp 3406e and all they'd give us was 410.

That's why you can't deal with cat. I would just load an old pre low-NoX file in it and it would run good. Cat can't do that.

They said something about that particular configuration, they turned up a 380 to 455 for us too.

What cam? The stage 1 cam is just the 800hp marine Cat cam part #10r7155.

You can't fix it. The factory wastegate plunger opens at a really low pressure since its controlled by the ECM, adding a port won't fix it. Also I bet the exhaust housing is cracked, almost all MBN chargers are because of the high exhaust temps caused by the EPA r-e-tarded timing. Not to mention like all factory turbos the shaft is too small. I have a pile of cat turbos with 2pc shafts. Put a good BW turbo on it and it will run good.
Couldn't ID the cam. All we had time to do was pull the rear cover and it was engraved like the ones on the PDI site.
Lots of blueing on the followers, spalling. On some of the lobes.

I thought you meant there was something about the mbn turbos. I agree none of them are much.

The hot rod Pete has a Schwitzer based PDI big boss or wtf ever. 45psi from a single.

I am pretty sure the C and E's split aluminum and steel crowns at 395ish?

We have seen the 550 kits 10r9925 with full wrap skirts and narrow skirts (long day, can't remember the name) both.
10r9926 /625hp with the narrow only.

Looked at the tag on the motor, it's a 355hp 6TS. I read somewhere that some of these came with steel pistons, but not all. What would be the easiest way to verify the piston?

Give me the full engine serial number

The lower HP 5EK's had the aluminum pistons, if it's a 6TS it had the steel crown articulated pistons. Depending on the ESN some 6TS's had the 10R-0958 injectors which are about 100hp larger than the "57's". However since this is a low hp engine it might not. But you should have no problem having the ECM flashed with a good pre-EPA 550hp file. If it's been touched by cat in the last 15+ yrs it probably has a crap "low-NoX" file in it.

I believe it was 550hp 5EKs and 475hp and up 6TS engines that came with the 3024s.

A friend just put a set of 3028s in his puller, I knew they were big but these are ridiculous.

I think the 3028's are considered the high HP C18 injectors. Heard they're like 5.5kg min where the normal 59 piston burners are only like 4.7. Not sure why but most pullers just use heavily extrude honed 59's.

I got your PM. It has the 0R-8333 cyl packs which have been used in engines over 550hp. It also has the larger injectors however I think it has the small non wastegated charger which will be an issue for HP.

Looks like other then a turbo and a good ECM flash your good for a huge jump in power.

They are the matching injector to the 1000hp cam. I think if people would quit trying to run 59s on the road they wouldn't have a bad rap, there are two more choices that would be plenty on the road above a 3024.

Shorty is out of the barn, should be going under the knife soon. It needs a both something awful.

There's an 87 K100 with a C model cat for 10k not too far from me, I wouldn't mind having it, I'd be having visions of a 270"+ wheelbase, dual 8" pipes, and dual chrome air tanks

That a new one? Thats not your puller is it?

No, not the puller, we have had it for a while, just now getting my old man to do something with it, if I hadn't been working on my A model I might have been able to work on it and probably already had it running and a rear end in it.

Cody you do realize they make trucks with the engine out front right? It's really an amazing advancement, you can work on the engine without busting out the window with the TV you forgot to strap down!

You buy one more COE and Lenny will start to think your his American brother!
