TST comp WOW!!!

Not to get off topic or anything, but what would be better to stack with the TST for added timing? Edge EZ or Smarty? Those are the only ones I hear people talkin about.

From my dyno results with the TST Comp/smarty and TST Comp/power puck (which is about the same as edge ez) I made about 10 less RWHP with the Smarty, BUT the HP and TQ started about 300 RPM sooner and lasted longer.

I find it hard to believe with out back to back testing on the same truck that the Edge drag comp makes more power then the TST Comp. Ive drove and saw a truck on the dyno with almost the same set up as mine back when i was pulling it make 50hp less then mine with the Edge on the same dyno, trucks were run back to back. I will be dynoing this weekend with my 64/HT3B twin setup to see how the TST Comp doesand mine shutters as you roll out of the throttle as well

The shudder that the TST Comp does, is not the same as air locking the VP44. Air locking the VP44 happens after being WOT and then chopping the power to quickly. With the TST Comp the shudder can happen at the higher power levels even if you do go WOT. It will also happen even when rolling out of the throttle. The TST Comp is very aggressive with it's controll of the fuel solenoid in the VP44. This is not really a bad thing, it just makes it tougher to drive smoothly. IMO all you need to do is use on of the lower power levels unless you are racing.

I tested the TST Comp with different stacks. I think the best stack is probably using the old power puck that plugged inline with the VP44. Those are hard to come by now. The drag comp works really well too.

I did not like the TST Comp for drag racing. It does low end fuel highly based on boost. This makes it very hard to hold a set about of boost while staging.

What did you have your smarty set on? Higher settings will net lower numbers. I run level 4 most of the time with the drag comp and dyno'd this way. I then loaded level 2 while still on the rollers and made another run and gained 27 hp.

Honestly go with both use the ez box for the added timing use the smarty on the even numbers, Thats what set up i use when im hooked to the sled and i have no complaints

i loved my tst comp compared to the drag comp. after having the tst on my truck along with the smarty i wouldnt go back to the drag comp.

I can probably borrow a buddys Smarty to run with the TST so I wouldn't have to buy one to test.

I'll be running twins and 220+hp injectors as a set up.

Yeah I hope so truck has been down for about 2 months now, been driving my racecort so I miss the truck bad. I should have it together this weekend.

Back on topic, I ran the Smarty on sw 09 and it had slightly touchy throttle, do you guys think the TST will be similar?

Level 3 on the smarty always got me better numbers with the TST comp.

Yeah, I used level 2 because the edge was already running the timing. I didn't dyno with the TST but there's no doubt that either 2 or 3 will net the higher peak hp numbers for the dyno. For just driving, I like either 4 or 5 depending on what boxes you run with it.

There'd be no need to run an EZ and a smarty. Just use one for timing and get rid of the other and save your money. The only reason to run a smarty and say an edge comp or drag comp is for bottom end and a few more rpm.

Smarty is useless on the higher levels at WOT. All it does is accelerate the signal on the TPS and then you run out of throttle on top. When you put it all the way to the floor on the higher levels, its boosted up, and revs are say 2500+, start letting up on the throttle very slow and you'll notice the truck feels like it lunges forward when you find the sweet spot for what it thinks is full throttle but ends up being somewhere around 3/4 throttle on the foot feed. With the revo, you can somewhat offset this by running level 2 or 3 and playing with all but the duration setting and it will be a lot better all around.

I agree with this. I run the Smarty Revo on my 02. When drag racing I run level 3, torque management 4, timing 3, and fuel 2. This is when stacked with the Redline box. With the turbos, and injectors I have, I can easily spool while staging, have rapid fueling increase when I launch, and I don't end up with the 3/4 throttle problem described above. Every setup will be different, but I like being able to have the adjustability of the Smarty.

I have the WOT issue as well on my truck. However, I am running only a drag comp. Truck feels like it pulls harder and makes more boost somewhere around 3/4 throttle, and as you push past that point it's almost like you can tell the truck is not pulling hard and the boost will fall off.

You can always adjust your throttle stop screw. Mine currently is out on my green truck. I need to put it back in. The only reason I did it was to get more voltage from the redline by seeing more travel and more out of the TPS, but the output stayed the same.

So a smarty revo is the only way to offset this issue?

Not at all. I had the same problem with the drag comp, and by running it on 5x4 instead of 5x5 it mostly went away. The ADR will do it to if you set the fuel stretch to high. For the last couple of years, my preferred setup on my 02 is using the Smarty and the Redline box. It seems to give me the most adjustability, through out the rpm range. Theoretically the ADR should be just as adjustable, but it has to many quirks for me.

Okay thanks. Unfortunately my drag comp is stuck on 5x5.
