turbo dying at the end

Whats weird to.me it my buddys common rail ran this turbo last year with about the same.amount of but.he.was running 373 gears with 35in tires and never had a problem with it.killing out on him and he pulls with a manual in 5th

2 completely different setups. A cr with said turbo may make 150hp more then a 12v. What can a stock turbo cr make with just tuning compared to a stock 12v tuned?

Go to a smaller frame charger or change gears... I'm a California puller and I know this! Lol

I would say one step further, that a CR can just spool a turbo better.

It seems he is struggling to accept the advice of several posters.

You think having a maxed and benched 215 pump that still retards itself could have something to do with it snuffing out?

I think you need:

A) more gear
B) more turbo
C) more RPM's
D) Air to Water intercooler

I know your trying to drive it on the street so the most logical solution would be to jump to 2nd gear hi range. What class are you in? 2.5 or 2.6? If your in 2.6 you could rig in an inline air to water cooler that goes in one of the pipes in addition to your air to air. Search on here, it has been done.

If it were me I'd put the big housing on the S400, and put some 4.56 or 4.88's in the axles and just deal with it. If you plan on making it a full time puller in the future it would be to your benefit. Its not like you can't drive the truck on the street with a really steep gear, it will just be less economical.

its not that im not taking the advice given if I could find 4.56 for a dana 80/60 id do it. Im just looking at other options to try until then. I just got a 1.0 housing to try but after looking at the video.from.my gopro, I leave at 4k and the rpms drop to probably 2500 and when it.snuffs it the end.I was right at 2000. With 2nd gear 4hi being 3 miles an hour slower then 4th 4low as far as wheel speed goes, which I would think would result in less momentum and rpm so I would die out quicker. Im pulling in 2.5 this year

I tried running a k31 2.5 which has was a smaller shaft and frame and I snuffed it out

The slower gear will let the engine run higher rpm. You need to look at the rpm down the middle of the track also. If you turn more rpm with the slower gear the mph may even out in the middle of the track and you will still have enough in it at the end to keep the turbo lit.

Try 2nd high range and don't touch anything else. Too many changes at once and you won't know what direction you are headed.

Just try 2 Hi. Trust us. It'll be better. You might still snuff but it will be better.

I already pulled my turbo but ill try 2nd 4hi are next track is pretty much a sand pit compared to the tracks weve been pulling on

I seriously just got a raging headache reading this whole thread........

Then why even post anything?

Sorry but I have 2 local guys telling me 2nd 4hi is to low of wheel speed and guys here saying to do it. Im going to try it and see whos right I guess. I was looking other advice other then gearing I know its something that will be changed when I have the spools and lockers to do it all at once. Im new to pulling with a cummins and im all about learning, hence the reason im asking questions in here. This only my 2nd hook with it so im trying to where I could change or adjust things to help. Im not sure if my pump retarding timing is causing part of the problem or turbine to small. Im just trying to make what I have work for now

You need to stop listening to your 2 local guys since they obviously have no clue how rpm and wheel speed work! Go to 4lo.com and use their gear ratio calculator. Just playing with it myself on your setup. If you pick up 400 rpm it nets you 2 mph over what you are actually turning now. And it will help stay on top of the charger by carrying more rpm

Momentum dosent mean anything if you don't have the grunt to keep going, I'd go with 2nd gear 4hi

Why post anything? Because you've been told buy more than a few people on here what you need to do to fix your problem. You keep justifying what your doing or running with bull$hit excuses. So go back, read all the posts on this thread again, pick one, and fix your $hit. Your not the first truck that has snuffed a charger at the big end for christ sakes.

You ain't sheetin! People are telling you the right thing to do on here and YOU aren't listening!!! Get your head out of your azz. Stop listening to your two fck nut buddies. Stop changing a bunch of useless crap. Put your truck in fckin second high. Put the thing to the mat and let the thing eat. Just because its over all a slower gear doesn't mean you wont actually pick up ground speed. And for Christ sakes stop looking at what mph the overall gear is because your not even getting that. You want the gear that's going to give you the most ground speed with your setup. And if now your going from a hard bite clay track then second high is going to be to slow. You also got to see how far you can go with the sled. If its pulling hard and your going like 300 feet use lower gear. If track is loose and pullers are going 350+ use 4th gear four low.
