I have a 48RE core transmission and TC for sale. I am asking $500 for both. I was looking to build an auto, but for now need to clear space and will tackle it when the time comes. I bought this transmission from SMKHZRD off of CF from a business he is affiliated with. He told me the transmission is a good core and good core TC. I did notice some cracks that had been welded on the OD unit. PM me and I can send pictures of whatever you want to see. Will post some here shortly. Would rather have a localish pick-up. Willing to travel some, can ship also if you cover all shipping costs. I have a FEDEX and UPS hub in town I can take it to.

It is clear that this trans has been gone through. I have not opened it myself.

Yeah, I have 3 in line so far. I'll be getting pics up soon. I'll keep everyone informed the best I can.

Sure that is a 48RE? IIRC the 48RE's had an unpainted silver pan. I mean the pan could have been painted. If you could put some better pictures up, it would be easier to tell. Snap some pictures of the pump area.

I was told it was a 48RE.

All of the 48RE's I have seen have a rust inhibitor coating on the pumps.
However some of the early ones could have ended up with some 48RE internals etc.

I know I had some custom parts made at the factory, and wouldn't be surprised if some of the 47RE/48RE parts got mixed in on the assembly line.
One 48RE reaction shaft suppor made with no sealing ring
A few pumps that had alot better sealing surface than the 48RE had
Some carriers made with no oil slinging holes etc.

What is the best way for me to confirm without a doubt that it is indeed a 48RE? I don't want to mislead anyone, even though I was told it was a 48RE. Should I pull the shaft and count clutch packs etc?

Thanks.

Pulling it apart and look at the spline count on the clutches, look at the sun shell thickness, look at the carriers.

The indications I have seen is it isn't a 48RE are below.
Pan wrong color
Pump not rust inhibited
no sealing ring on the reaction shaft.

Hmmm..... well that burns my hide if I was lied to about it. I guess I will pull it tonight and find out, because I don't want to do the same to someone else.

It might not have been on purpose, picture it this way, you almost sold it as a 48RE.

Disappointing what some of these shops think they know, or don't tell their customers.

if you drop the valve body out of it or pull the overdirve unit and look at the parking paw arm the 47re has a smaller end going into the overdrive unit than the 48re trans

That is a good point as well, however if he doesn't have a known one beside it, it will be tough to tell if it is larger or smaller with no known reference.

There are bolts missing that hold on the pan and OD unit an valve body. Everything else looks good. Tell me what you want a count or measurement on.
