VGT manual control.

Do any of you know about the ports on this thing? I know the yellow one is the oil port, the blue one is the water port but what is the red one? Mine just has a hole there and a screw hole next to it, I think I can see the shaft if I look down in there but I dont think its an extra oil feed, what kind of sense would that make.

Anyone know what the red circle is? can I just block it off?

Is it a shaft speed sensor hole?

Yes it is... I would still like to see if the Garret guage would work. When I asked a couple of dealers about it one said that the garret sensor is a 7 count sensor (picks up 7 impulses, but sends out one) Meaning if there is only one notch on our shafts and our sensors will drive the guage, then it should work :poke: Just haven't looked into it much, don't even know how much it would cost...

hey guys i have bilt a 351 vgt with a manual wastegate can and used on a twin setup i had trouble getting it dialed in eventually i put a regular turbo in its place i have an hx35 size vgt on my race truck and it works very well i believe a 431 vgt would be a better choice due to a larger exhaust size

is it possible to spool a single he551ve quick with the housing closed up?

tony, what turbo did you change to? i'm hoping that i can drop a bigger turbo below my 351ve and hit 600 rwhp with instant spool up (basically doing what cumminscowboy has done on his 6.7). i'm wondering what drive pressures will be and if i will need an external wastegate to make it work.

How quick is quick??

stock or close to it (city driving)

my 351 vgt spools faster than my he341. i'm curious how the 551 would do as a single. the wheels are bigger...but if the housing can go down to 6cm... ??

The charger actually spools a touch better if it's not closed all the way.

This thing will probably not spool like stock on anything short of what it came off of stock, and ISX. On my 12v, it lights about 2300RPM...I'd say that's about a 1000RPM later than stock!

ok. i'm curious whether the 551 would be worth trying in a twins set (with a blow off valve) or merely just dropping an s400 below my 351ve (or maybe an h3tb or ht60).

my goal is to have instant spool with only a puff of smoke (i'm getting old haha). ..but to be able to cool 600 rwhp. anything over 600 and i'd upgrade to a more typical big set... 64/s480 or something, but those are too laggy before 10psi for my style of street driving.

If it would fit, I'm sure a 551 would work well in a twinset...shouldn't need a blow off valve, as the housing open up to 31cm, and will NOT spool until 34-3500RPM if it's open that far;)

What you would need to do probably is adjust it so it can't close too far either...if you close it up to far is does hurt spool more than help it on my 12v...maybe a CR would be different?

The packaging would be a nightmare on a CR though!

I would look for a bigger intake wheel for my 351 before I would try to swap a bigger one.

It's NOT fully complete so don't mind a bunch of the imperfections.

...well what i was thinking is having the 551 closed up a good ways, and then open up. basically have the 551 spool up to about 10-15psi before having a wastegate actuator open it up. it would be the same as what i have done above to the he351ve, just with a lower psi actuator. there are adjustable stops on the arm so with a good bit of tuning in a twins set it (should) work very well. i would think that i would have an issue with barking as i run the 351 on the edge of barking. BD blow off valve system? and also how much is TOO much low end torque before i start breaking parts

i can make the housing "smaller" on the 351, but it barks all of the time and i don't want to hurt the thing. i also agree with packaging.

Thats exactly why I am installing the 351vgt on my truck. I am wanting to run it and either and s471 or larger vgt turbo. Of course I am running a 3.9L so my setup is a little different than most others here, I would have plenty of room to run the 551 though LOL.

The 551 will close enough it "bogs" the engine at idle...on my truck, that hurts spool up...if I open it just above that point, I can get 2-4psi more boost et every RPM, then it only opens up about 1/8" to 3/16" of actuator movement to limit boost to about 43-44psi.

i never could get my 351 to spool correctly i tried opening the vanes in alot of different positions and it was either too corked up or too open to spool i went back and installed a regular 351 off my 04.5 and it spools great with a 475 under it i,m thinking of installing an external gate to relieve some drive pressure i,m running around 85 psi at 75psi boost i also have a 551 ve if anybodys interested i have 500 in it i believe it woulb be great as a primary charger

i have no issues...spools faster than my he341 and flows a lot more on the top end...cold egts. again, the adjustable stops (screws with a locknut) allows me to adjust it. that's why i refrained away from doing the air cylinder control like some of the other guys have done
