Someone told me that on one of the lines that connects to the turbo you can change out a fitting and actually eliminate turbo lag. Any input on this would be great before I get antsy and try to screw my turbo up. Thanks

that would be a boost elbow, and it has nothing to do with how fast the turbo spools. it comes into play when you want to adjust your peak boost pressure.

Ok maybe I should be more detailed that was my fault. What he told me was by changing the fitting it wouldn't neccesarily make it boost faster but that I would already be producing boost while idling. Would this be a smart thing to mess with or should I just pass it by.

Ya, go for the boost elbow. It wont make it build boost faster or build boost at idle or anything, it just lets you build more peak boost. With a comp box it will build somewhere in the low to mid 20's without a boost elbow. With the boost elbow, it will build in the low 30's.

The way it works is that it restricts flow to the wastegate, thus holding it closed longer to produce more boost. The factory elbow flows more to the wastegate, thus opening it at lower boost pressure.

on my 01 auto it doesnt have a rubber tube to change anything its got a steel one so i just left the elbow off

your auto has an HY35 which has to have a j-hook to build more boost. no experience with the HYs. BumpsCummins, if you have an auto, then your turbo is an HY35 too.

i had a hy 35 and its best to just leave them alone imo. but i had mine on for about 3 months then went bigger... then bigger... then bigger.

So I'd just be better off gettin the j-hook from bully dog instead of messin somethin up

You can buy the $60 j hook or go to home depot and get this for about $5....

Well if I do that then what length say from hook to hook does it need to be?

Says 4-6" I think on the pic.... but you'll have to play with it to get the desired boost you want... My HY was just solid blocked so the wastegate wouldn't open. I would push 38-40psi on hard runs... But that was way out of the map for that turbo...

My auto uses a boost elbow. Just look at it cause thats probably what you need and their like 20 bucks or less.

'99 auto still had an HX-35. His 2002 has an HY-35 with a hardline wastegate. Can't use a boost elbow on that.

Well I went to home depot and lowes and niether one havedouble hooked turnbuckles. Only hook/eye turnbuckles and you can't take the hook from another one because they're both left hand threads. About the picture, I don't understand what the spring is for, both ends thread directly into the turnbuckle so the spring won't be useful for anything.

im still going to say its not worth dumping any time or money into a hy35. imo they are ment for a stock truck. if you really need more air then sell the hy to some asian rice rocket freak and get a hx 35 then upgrade the wastegate and put a boost elbow on it.

If he just has the drag comp/Smarty he should be fine with an HY. Mine was fine unless I was turned all the way up on 5x5...

I never built one just posted what I found online... I would assume you use a smaller j hook on the spring end or drill it out and it just slides. you would adjust with the nuts.

I'm selling my smarty hopefully this weekend(could use the money). It does'nt do anything for my truck I guess because I don't have injectors or anything of that nature. The comp alone does plenty for it. I'm just looking for a wat to get more air in the cylinders. I'm hoping to get my exhaust, fass pump, and intake manifold here soon. If I have enough money ;eft I'm looking at getting an intercooler also but I doubt it.
