Big difference between 4340 and 304... one will rust, the other wont. plus 304 is a way better grade material than 4340.

Thats where your wrong 4340 is just a harden alloy of 304 but it is magnetic because of the hardening process. They both have the same amount of chromium but twice the nickel content. I have a pile of 4340 material that sees 90k psi of water 24hrs a day and none of it will ever rust.
