I figure on my Dodgey getting 12 mpg or so towing.
So at 60 mph, that's 5 gal/hr or say at current prices, $22.50/hr in fuel.
I dunno, anything over about 3 hrs one-way is going to be kinda tough.
Maybe I should make my own $200 rule. If I can't get there and back for $200, forget it...unless it's a special one-off big event kinda thing.
I guess the way I look at it, at some point I'd rather buy something nice for my truck...like for $500, I'd rather buy some nice go-faster part than burn the fuel.
I think one potential effect it could have is pushing people back into smaller classes where the truck can be driven to the pull with minimal risk of breakage (and can carry some spare parts). The cost of a tow truck & trailer, insurance, registration, maintenance, etc., just to tow around a more purpose-built truck is getting be awful pricey IMO.
