what are your thoughts on the 6.4?

So what kind of tuners and delete systems should a guy look at, I have a bud at work that is trying to get more than his 11-12 MPG running empty. He told me just this morning that someone (I don't remember the company) in Georgia sold a setup with a tuner and delete system for 2K and claiming a mileage increase up to 20 mpg, of course I know nothing about this, any info would be appreciated.

Jim

Im over in Muskogee. If you ever around you can take my truck for a spin. My dad and I both are running DPF deletes. Let me know if you around.

What has your mileage increase are you seeing. He is wanting the full kit and if the increases are what they say he'll be looking for the best pricing.

He lives in Choctaw and is in the Navy with me at Tinker.

i cant tell what mileage increases i have gotten becuase it is to fun, i just stay on the go pedal all the time, but i have noticed even with me driving a little harder that i did when stock, i have gotten better mileage, havent done any calc or anything but i know it is better

we have an 08 550hd. we load it with 6 tons + and it halls a**.

i never found the exact numbers for fuel consumption but its not the greatest.

I get 8-10 MPG when towing my 50' car carrier loaded or not makes no difference i run a mild tuner as you can see in my sign empty driving in normal conditions i can see 18 MPG. I really love the truck go for it you won't be disapointed and the way new stuff appears for the 6.4 it could be better soon

Actually on my 2nd 08 F250 since dropping GM and have never looked back. Was getting about 14 in town and 18 on the highway in the first one and getting 15-16 in town now and 20 on the highway with no mods. Just wanted a new one and no, there was absolutely nothing wrong with the first one.. Happy to finally have a truck I can depend on...

Neither of your Dmaxs were dependable huh?

Mine happily start up everyday! :poke:

I have a question about the 08 superduty. I took one for a test drive lastnight and I have to say it was not what I thought. I pulled out and it felt like a slug, almost like it was in 2nd gear. It rode ok, but after test driving an 07 superduty I thought it would ride better.

My questions are: Do these trucks have an ecm parameter that will not let them make full power till it warms up? The truck was outside in high 30 low 40 degree temps and not pluged in. As far as the ride, where there a lot of changes to the suspension between 07 and 08? Also, do these trucks need to flashed or something to run right? Maybe I drove one that just was not right.

I am looking for another one to test drive, but I am just looking for some information. I am use to my 2001 dodge ram 2500 with a built dtt and a few other goodies.

The ecm's change the fueling depending on the engine's temperature. Not sure if they still use engine oil temperature or coolant temperature, but you will have less power when it is cold.

I'm a ford fan through and through and here's my outlook, it's an awesome truck if you dont mind voiding your warranty.

They NEED DPF delete and tuning to be awesome!

Some are putting down 550+hp and ~1200ft/lbs with just tunes/exhaust/intake. Same truck with a little spray put down 644hp uncorrected.

That's awesome for just the 275 spartan tune!

Innovative had rumors flying of 500hp tunes coming out for these monsters once the custom tuning software is released from SCT!

I have a f450 4x4 with 430 gears. With the sct and dpf delete I get 13mpg. Some people claim they get up to 16 with the same set up but I have not seen it yet.

has any body had to take there ford truck back to the dealer after installing the dpf delete and then re installing it. Can the dealer tell?

yes there has been atleast one guy, had fuel problems, reinstalled dpf, uninstalled intake and tune, dealer had computer hooked up quite a bit, never saw nothin

You can see the tuners on the 6.4's if the dealers look hard enough. The mapping on the 6.4's PCM is much different than previous trucks. The dealers CAN find the tuning on them, some just dont care. You can only do a DPF delete with tuning correctly so the tuner is a must too.

yes you are right, if they look hard enough, but im saying that this guy had no problem with the techs,

i would guess, since it was a fuel delivery problem, that if the dealer saw anything, they would blame it on the tuner and void warrenty, so im making an assumption that they didnt see anything

To the guy who's raven about the dodge and how amazing it is.. in the 450 / 4500 category there is no comparison. ive owned them all.

not trying to get in a pissing contest because in the end does it really matter? but i know mileage is cool of the dodge. but no dodge ive owned could keep up with what my F450 does. the motors are great... but the truth is in the overall picture I would not trade my truck for nothing comfort, drivetrain, brakes, etc. i guess im lucky but i get 13-15 around town with 4.88 gears and i dont drive like an old lady. and the dodge ive owned would of already been on its 4th trans. ya I could of spent the money to upgrade it but then there's really no point in comparison. my trucks factory stock other than the tuner.

if you use spartan ford cannot detect it i have a buddy that works for the ford dealer here and for ****s and giggles unloaded my programmer he hooked up to my truck and couldnt find anything.
