I've got a 93 dodge with the 5 speed getrag in it. Im getting ready to get a new dual disk clutch. i will only be using the truck for pulling it doesn't get driven on the street. what is everyones thoughts or opinions on what clutch i should get?

thanks
nick

Southbend 3850 12fb or sintered iron would be good. Do you ever plan to swap to an NV4500?

Sintered Iron if it's only gonna pull. If it were mine, the getrag would get lost. $.02

strength reasons, gear ratios? whats the main advantage to the nv4500? id probably be best swapping in the 4500 and an np271 right? and not even waste my money getting a clutch for that getrag.

Does anyone make a DD for a getrag?? (might be that you can't upgrate to the 1 3/8 shaft..) we switched to a NV45 to go to a DD and the bigger shaft..

south bend has one they sell an input shaft so that you can run it

you all still havent said exactly why you would get rid of the getrag

Well, if a well tuned VE truck with a single can break one on the street.........

ok well the next question would be who has one they are looking to get rid of, transfer case included.

Just start poking around all the classifieds everywhere, be prepared to pay about $1800 AT BEST for a trans and case.

Realistically, $1200 for a trans and about $800 for a tcase.

ok thanks guys. that gives me something to think about. ill look around for a good deal one but i need something soon and i dont have the most money in the world.

Have you talked to them?? I see they have some for the small input shaft.. I don't know if you can go any higher on the plate load.. but you could always buy the clutch for the 1.25 input shaft.. and run it for now.. if you change to the NV4500 with the bigger shaft, just have them change the hubs on the disks... Basically, I think they will work with you if you tell them what you want to do..
You're going to spend some $$$... for the clutch and to change the trans.. either switch everything over to the later bellhousing and master slave setup.. or go with the conversion kit, and reuse your hydraulics.. We used the conversion.. but not sure how well the hydraulics are going to hold up, if.. when we go to a higher plateload..
Good Luck... Your truck looks good.. Love those 1st Gens...

thanks bryan. what makes this so difficult is the $$$ part. if i had endless cash flow i would go get myself an nv 4500 the later bellhousing and the best of everything to put it in and the best clutch southbend makes. but im trying to make something that will be strong and reliable for a not to crazy amount of money. but that doesnt really go hand and hand.

I know what you mean.. you can also check with Valair in TX.. I don't think they have anything listed.. but if its running on the same 1.25 input shaft it shouldn't mater..
I'd get a clutch and go with what you have.. by the time you do the trans/Tcase/driveshafts and clutch you're going to be in pretty deep..

yeah thats what i was just thinking bout. stuff like those two brandnew driveshafts i just put on would now be worthless. i m almost thinking for now i need to just but the clutch in the setup i have now and when it starts giving me major issues adress the situatuion then. but if i run across a good deal on a 4500 maybe i shouldnt turn it down

i just had a guy on hear tell me about a six speed he has with a 3600 sb clutch and it will come with the hydraulics, linkages, pedal, etc. (he is turning the truck into an auto). big problem is fifth and sixth gear are gone in the truck. how much do you think i could wind up putting into fixing the gears? how much trouble would putting the six speed in mine be?

South Bend 3850 or 4200 Sintered Iron disks for sure! If the truck has 3.55's then I would go with a 6spd NV5600 instead. 3.55's plus 4th low = AWESOME FINAL DRIVE! If its 4.10 geared I would just get a 5spd and plan on doing a gear swap to 4.88's when you want to be more competitive.

I don't know about the NV5600.. We used the conversion kit, and it uses the NV4500 with the 205 case, and you can use your old drive shafts.. someone on here has a NV4500 with a 271, and still using the right side front drive..

it takes a bunch of custom modification to flip the T-case tho. you are better off keeping the 205 if you wanna keep cost down
