What to change for a loose track?

Alright, I'll say it, I am tired of getting my ass handed to me on loose tracks. On a tight track I can run with the best 2.8 trucks in the area, but on a loose track I just blow the tires off and can't get it hooked up.

Running 4 BFG AT's on the rear at 35psi, and STS's up front at 20psi, had 1000lbs hanging off the front, and just recently moved my hitch in 10" and I just blow the tires off and scream down the track.

Would running single STS's in the rear be better than dualled up BFG's, maybe it will dig down and find something to grab rather than floating on the top.

Any ideas?

Grab a higher gear and burn the clutch up, possibly the singles might help also. We have some of the loosest tracks I have seen. It seems to be about wheel speed, and not blowing them off out of the hole.

I haven't tried my higher gear since last year when I got ballsy and tried to run it against the Pro-stock (NADM's Super Street basically) class on a tight track and heavy sled, I got snuffed and haven't used it since. Maybe it times to try it again.

how about dual STS's in the back?

What's your high gear 2nd high or 5th low? you are still 3.55's right?

i run 4th low almost all the time now, my high gear is 2nd high. id never be able to pull 5th high with these 3.54's tho, on a tight track i cant pull 2nd high either.

same here, didn't know if you changed gears yet or not.

I have an extra set of STS's mounted on some dually rims, I'm just not sure if it would be too much tire in the back or not? 6 STS's is a whole lot of bite.

Yes, I know some folks that have tried it with bad luck. Hence how I ended up with 4 brand new STS's.

Josh run's 6 sts's without a problem. It has always hooked great on a loose track like that.

1 T-Case, several driveshafts(before the STS's), the stock axles(before STS's i think) and thats about it over the last 3 years. Not so bad considering those things will break eventually pulling anyways.

Don't forget the latest transmission pieces.

What does that have to do with STS's though? I dont really think that had much to do with the tires.

The way i see it is if you are going to pull, you almost always want the most traction you can get. If you are in it to win, you are going to break stuff anyways.

I am saying that it takes a lot of HP to spin them. It seems Josh is having more than his fair share of carnage. Some folks have great luck with them. If there appears to be a breakage issue, I would back off on the traction until the breakage issue is resolved. He seems to have alot of carnage, maybe it is the hand throttle?

What psi did you run in the duals when you won at mason dixon last year?

I would think you would want more than 35 psi in the rear if your wanting them do dig into a loose track.$.02

Move weight around. Despite popular belief, you're not always best served with all ballast up front on your weight rack. ;)

Well, yes it takes some HP to spin them, but it takes some HP to do well in 2.6 anyways. I dont think Josh has broken more than anyone else who has been pulling every weekend for the last 3 years or so. Most of the carnage was before he was running the STS's. I believe the ONLY thing he broke all last year was his transfer case. Thats pretty darn good I think.

Im not trying to argue, I just have yet to see a case where a truck pulled better with less traction, unless it keeps you from falling off the charger at the end.

That was the point I was trying to make. Not even falling off the charger, letting the tires spin a little to get up in the engines power band, before the hammer from the sled drops.
