WHat'll make a quiet secondary loud all the sudden ?

Oiling issue maybe?

my last 66 did the same thing befor i poped it.......gradualy got a louder whistle, then got real loud so i laid in to it, about 50psi it screached for a split second and BOOM!!! it was from lack of oil.....i used the stock oil feed, and i guess it was kinked.

good luck getting it fixed, and it would be a perfect time to go bigger

Some times the fins getting messed up will cause them to whistle.
Mine was this way. Got loud, pulled the pipe off and saw the wheel chewed up. Ordered a new wheel and the noise went away.

For future reference. The noise is saying "hey.. you better look at me mister"
Not "hey.. flog it a few times and kill me"

LOL

i think subconsciously he knew it was goin so half his brain said " hmmm what noise may this be?" the other half knew the charger was gonna go and its easier to diagnose shrapnel! "smash accelerator pedal to finish it!"

I'm kind of with Rich. It's harder to hear the noises on the secondary. Kinda odd to hear the noise for awhile. Maybe a loose bolts on thecompressor housing?

I do like your diagnostic method. Pound on it until you can see the bad parts. Works for me!

Pulled it today...judging by all the oil inside the compressor housing it's definitey NOT an oiling issue. No contact of either the compressor or turbine wheel to either housing either...little to no shaft play..up/down or in/out.
Just needs a new center chunk as far as I can tell....Keating will know more when he gets it this week for a rebuild.
I wonder how much an upgrade to a ball bearing center is? Hmmmm....need to call keating tomorrow about that.....
