I use 2nd HI with 4.10's & 33's. I pull against guys who use 4th low & usually put 10ft on them or better. Most of the tracks are hard pack out here though. I haven't run 4th because 2nd has worked great for me. I've seen too many guys breaking parts & losing clutches to 4th.
Yea Dan yr getting to what I'm looking for , if any HP or lets say were is the most power loss ... I busted 2nd gear 2 weeks ago and got the counter shaft hate to do that again .. I have a set of gears that would turn my 4low into 2nd and after last night I think thats the best final for me, and if I need just a little moire I can throw on some 315s to gain some MPH
Ding ding ding. Make suttle changes with tires .

I always hear the exact opposite. Everybody always says you break more parts on the high side.???
Oh, I've heard the same as well, but I'm not buying it. I've had these transmissions apart & transfer cases as well. You are putting more stress on your clutch, input shaft, u-joints, turbo, everything by grabbing big gears. I think more revs combined with smooth launches is key to a good pull.
if u can run the rpms. run 3rd low i run it at 5200 rpm. its easy on the driveline and clutch. the high side of the transfur case is week in the dld and dhd but if u put a 271 or 273 in there you can run the high side but the 2nd gear is a weaker gear then 3rd or 4th
The question here is are you looking for insane amount of R's or ground speed...........I could pull in 1stL if I did not care about ground speed.
Brandon
Strongest possible setup
5 speed = 4th low
6 speed = 5th low
Driving with the mainshaft is like having direct drive. No matter what gear you pull in the countershaft is always spinning so if you are looking for least amount of drag, I don't know what to tell you.
