I've read about some readers rides changing the valve springs on both the 12 & 24 valve, whats the deal, what does this do for you and is it worth it? How much better is the performance from this change? How much money are we talking and where do you get them, from any parts store? I have a '99 regular cab, 4x4, auto that I want to do some pretty heavy mods too.

Not for power, they control the valves better so you don't put one through your pistons.

Usually over about 3200RPM on these engines is where valves have been known to start floating and then get all buddy buddy with a piston and when that happens it is not cool.

it's more of a boost thing than RPM, it's the added pressures against them that will open them prematurely, so u get springs with added seat pressure to hold the valves in the seats as you start to increase your boost lvls and rpm

it a piece of mind knowing that it is less likely that you are going to have a valve float and make contact with the piston. it is also like stated above that once you start running higher boost numbers you are not causing the valve to open premature.

You're not going to find much at all "at any parts store" for your diesel.

Napa might help every now and then, but you'll need to know a part number before hand.

You're here.

This is your new home. Find vendors here. It's all phone calls and your own driveway from here on out...

i dont know about 12v's but 24v's will go to 3800+ on stock springs

Any one have part # for valve springs for the 24 valve...not the "diesel shop" one that cost 3 times the money. Somthing that will work that is for another application....

Buddy of mine picked up 30ftlbs of torque just by swapping valve springs. He was pushing 60-70psi of boost. Definitely well worth the money.

ive heard LS1 valvesprings work not sure though id like to know

I've heard that one vendor that sells "performance" valve springs for the Cummins was actually reboxing 4.6L springs and reselling them... Not that I would use them, but alot of people have in the past before this came to light, so there must be something to them.

Part# 68190-24 from Summit racing. The -24 is the number of springs. They are 110lbs seat pressure. Been using these for the past year and a half with no trouble at all. No valve to piston contact and I turn 5000rpm at every pull.

12v or 24v?
