I am doing some research on Lockers for my truck. It is a street driven, heavy towing, sled pulling on the weekend rig. What do you guys suggest & why?

in my front end i run a powertracs locker that drops in the stock carrier. it work good for me and was cheap and i still tow with it. probably will change to a true locker when i go to 5 13 gears though.

How does it do in the corners? From searching the forums, I have gotten mixed reviews about the detroit lockers. Some say they are noisy & annoying when cornering.

well ya you can hear the locker ratcheting in the corners sometimes. Its not to bad if you still have the CAD. the way i look at it as far as the noise you have mud tires howling, a loud exhaust, turbo noise, and some sub i never hear the locker any way. whats one more noise. if i was worried about noise id buy a chevy! haha

LOLI just got confused by some of the posts. Guys made it out like you gotta let completely out of the fuel to make a turn? I don't want a locker if my truck isn't gonna be fun to drive. How much distance will a locker actually add in a sled pull?

if you got the money i would suggest the air or electric lockers if you want street ease and still have a solid lock on the track. that way you can control when you want it. as far as in the pulling world i am not sure how much gain in distance you would get

If money isn't an option, ARB front and back... other than a full spool its your strongest option IMO

Money is a issue, I have kids.LOL A friend of mine has a detroit locker for sale. He said $400. I am trying to decide if I should go that route or wait & buy something better?

For the front, I like the elocker/air lockers, for the rear i think a detroit would be fine, but an arb would be the best for your situation though.

My truck has factory posi. Is a locker worth the money/time?

I would personally have just have Orlo add some clutches to you rear. And put money i a front arb locker..

I've run detroit lockers for years so have a lot of experience with them. Absolutely do not put one in the front on a street driven vehicle. You can put one in the back but will have to live with it. It not only is noisy, you will have to let off the fuel in corners. It can be downright dangerous in snow or ice and tricky in the rain. You will not find it to be "fun" driving on the street.

I would go air locker in the front first, then air locker in the rear when you can.

Detroit front, ARB rear. Gives you the option to toggle the rear on and off, and with locking front hubs you will never know it's in the front until you need it. Once you have a rear locker you will find it very rare to even need 4wd 90% of the time. I have ARB's front and rear in my Landcruiser and i would imagine I have used the front locker maybe 3 times in 6 yrs of wheelin it.

I have a detroit in the back and dont care for it at all on the street. Im guna put the factory posi back in. Im not guna be pulling for awhile so there is no need for it. I think if you are guna drive on the street alot and pull trailers there are better options like an air locker.

With the CAd it wont have any posi until locked into 4x4 at least in the front end. plus any high horsepower truck is useless in the snow or ice all the want to do is blow the tires off every time the turbo comes on but lots of fun.

Thats a good deal, Id take him up on that.

I run Detriots in my K5 front and rear and LOVE them, one will be going in my truck once the engine gets built up, for the rear it doesnt bother me at all on hard turns you can chrip the tires all day if you want, or just get off the gas and they wont, youll find out after driving how to get around this by working the gas pedal on certain turns.

For the front if you have locking hubs, definitely go with a locker, but if you do its a pain in the ass. I leave my locked when Im going trail to trail when Im off roading and its like Austin Powers a 100 point turn, its annoying to say the least.

I say ARB in both. just because you basically turn them off and have open carriers for a perfectly normal truck on the street

Detriots in the rear of a truck that sledpulls and or tows heavy are bad news. You bust an axle on the power you will most likely shred the locker also.

I vote ARB.
