OK, there are Several threads by TY and Myself as well as other about this NOISE we are getting!!! And so many have said , "I have it too!!" , " I have it but have STOCK pistons", "I have it but have decompressed pistons"

Trying to compliy a LIST of who actually has it and What it sounds like to them!!! How bad!!!!

Lets start with a Cut and Paste list of Screen Names and If you want to include your real name if fine too......THEN below the list, please DESCRIBE the noise / rattle / clatter / pinging/ etc. to the BEST of you words!!!!

I'm wanting this thread so we can keep track of who has what and whos tried what to find and fix this problem!!!!!

OH YEAH!!! Please only respond if its YOUR TRUCK!!! I can appreciate folks wanting to speak for a friend but just tell them to post up or JOIN if they haven't yet...That way CompD will benefit as well!!!

1. Big Swole = David Elrod

My noise is NOT consistant for every take-off..What I mean is that it doesn't sound the same everytime..Although it is just as loud each time!!
It sounds like I've got a ball bearing Bounsing around inside the cylinder walls!!! Sometimes it sounds like a "CRACKLING" of fuel burning before the boost gets up to about 10 psi.........
It is so loud that when I'm beside cars / walls/ buildings, etc. it literally echo's off of them and draws attention..
My piston were cut by .100 and according to one member, my compression level is at around 14.52:1.......
Rest of my mods are in my Sig......
I have tried a "Lite timing PPE Hot+2 E.T." and it does the same thing but seemed Just a BIT less right off idle......

Any questions, please ask......

Just cut and Paste you screen name and Name the describe you noise / mods below!!!

Thanks for the help everyone!!!!

Triton - Ty :-)

My wife's completely stock truck - Angela ( not like ours but, rattles just the same )

Things I've tried

  • Starscan to check parameter including " actual and demanded psi " all was right where it should be.

  • replaced.....MAP, RP, CrankPS & CamPS no change

  • tried numerous Smarty softwares... Beta 4.2, 4.3, 4.4, TNT, TNT-R - Ran BDDL 2.4 PL custom tune from PDI - removed all electronics but, nothing helped

  • Scheid sent me a brand new set of Lightning 10 hole injectors. They have many customers using them and are completely happy. They made no difference in my truck at all as far as rattle

  • installed the extra pin into my Fluidamper

  • pulled the head to inspect for visual damage. Took measurement for protrusion of injectors, measure existing and new head gasket.... found nothing. While the head was off, I installed new Hamilton springs and push rods. The springs I replaced were F1 sportsmens. I've checked valve lash more times that I care to count.

  • I have a modded rail and thought possibly that was doing something. I installed a stock rail to see and nothing.... same rattle.

  • My injectors have been tested 3 times. Once by Don and twice by Scheid. they're in prefect condition.

  • I tried pouring a gallon of oil in the tank.... didn't do a thing.

  • I tried running straight 30w oil.... nothing

  • I've had oil samples done several times... nothing out of the ordinary was found

  • I've replaced all the fuel lines from the rail, I had extruded cross over tubes that I replaced with stock and nothing.

  • The tranny was rebuilt 6 months ago and it looked as if it was never driven hard so, nothing there

  • Talked to Dan @ PPE and replaced the wiring harness that they send with their dual kit... nothing

  • I've talked to Lloyd Mills, Tim Barber, Jeff Garmon, Dan Scheid, Bo Layne, Kent Crowder, Dave @ Floor it, Dave @ TST, Bob Wagner on many occasions, attempted to talk to Don M, Brady @ II, Shane @ Wicked, Todd @ T&C and probably several more that I can't think of. Everyone has theories but, I don't think enough is known about the CR to make a exact call.

Threads that I've started about this issue

:poke: I think you and Ty just need a badazz stereo to crank up and quit your *****in:hehe::hehe: Just kiddin with ya'll........I hear stuff too:bang WW

LOL I've told Dave the same thing but, we need to support his mission :-).

My 7 speaker have served me well :ylsuper:

This thread needs sound/video.....David you need hawk some equipment from work and if you have a gal pal with a mac, its about 3 clicks to put it up on utube...

Grey truck in the vid sounded like an S load of timing!

sounds exactly like when too much timing is added via TST.

Get the rokktech sensor and retard the timing instead of advancing it.

At the time of the video I was running 27k-30k of rail pressure. No boost and excessive pressure. Boost comes and the noise disappears.

Last Spring my motor was stock internally.

Fully built motor, less pressure (fall 2008)

Were did Tim put you for compression, if I recall you dropped a point.

Sounds way better, my truck sounds the same as that.....well at least till the rods gave up.

My truck did this before I rebuilt the motor with my Flux 2's and 62/71/13 over S474. I usually drove with reduced timing and it still did it.

Wide Open Performance rebuilt my motor with oversized pistons and we lowered my compression about 1-1.5 points. Now I'm running DDP 200hp injectors and have an S480 on the bottom and it makes the same noise until I start seeing boost. It was slightly more pronounced when I put in the bigger injectors. My wastegate was screwed up on my top turbo causing me to have an incredibly slow spool. The noise was incredibly noticeable then and was there as long as it took to start spool. I've noticed when I put Smarty torque management back to stock that I can pretty much drive around the noise by applying less pedal pressure (less fuel).

Yes!! like an A$$ load of timing!!

Rokktech sensor??????

Man this is interesting. I have been following the other threads. It will be interesting to see what the fix is, if you ever find one! Just curious, what kind of rail pressure are you guys seeing when the noise occurs?

David, I will add myself to the list from what I have heard my noise is similiar to yours but less. It occurs at lo or no boost with a moderate amount of pedal pressure on the accelerator, baby the throttle and it doesn't occur and mash it and it occurs for a split second then is gone when boost comes in. It sounds like an old ***** gargling marbles. My mods list is
Stock bottom end
F1 cam and springs
Flux 3.3's
Twins 62 over 480
PPE dual pumps
Smarty programming and that's it except for some pressure with Power Puck
