Who Has the Rattle / Clatter / Knock etc???

my theory on this is that the extrude honed injectors are a stock hole location injector and as you extrude hone them the spray pattern gets larger and the fuel no longer stays in the fuel bowl. Thus causing the knocking everyone is hearing. With an edm'ed tip the holes aren’t in a stock location to begin with that way the fuel is directed into the fuel bowl. just one thought on this subject

the flaw in your theory is, not everyone has EH injectors. It's not being of EH tips.

I used some brand new Scheid 10 hole and it changed nothing.

Correct. Every Brand injector does it. We Should start callin this a pressure Rattle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just can’t justify calling it a pressure rattle because mine did it even on stock programming. With no boxes on it at all.

Sure a stock truck even does it. I'm not an expert by no means But John @ Floor it has a darn good explanation for it and it makes sense. Try listening to a 600series cr with to stg3 pumps as appossed to to stock pumps. There are also other factors like Pilot intection, and injector size.

ok i posted here before and the 3rd motor melted now, since i started having that rattle!!

i had the injectors fully rebuilt by f1

:(

You mean you had them rebuilt after the third motor melt, or after each one?

You think the rattle caused the melt downs?

Who's building your engines after the melt down? It might be time to go to someone who know's what they are doing.

Just an Update... Since We dropped compression in my 06, The rattle has Increased significantly. Just wanted to throw that out there. The difference between a stock 24v gasket and a .020 12v marine gasket made a huge difference in the rattle. Same symptoms as everyone else who has the rattle. I'll be at TS so, I would be curious to know if you other guys have the same sounding rattle.

there's an idea. We should all get together and compare rattles LOL

I'll put money on the fact mine is worse than anyone's  The nice thing about it is..... there's no power loss from it so I still plan to whip up on you quick diesel boys :poke: :Cheer:

Ill put money that mine is one of the loudest! come find me at the sled pull ill let you guys listen.

I am like Chris, I went from flux 3.3's to 4.3's and I don't think that made much of a difference in the rattle but I also added a .010 thicker HG and I am certain that is what increased the rattle, still it isn't terrible. Jay

Since this is happening in trucks that haven't been decompressed I'm inclined to think that isn't a cause.

I just received a oil analysis back the other day and after 2 years of horrendous rattling and many runs down the track, there are no signs of unusual wear other than some high levels lingering from the initial build.

It was a concern the rod bearings would be taking much more abuse than they should from the rattling but, that doesn't seem to be the case.

I'm coming to the conclusion more and more that Cummins built these trucks to run quiet. We've come along and altered it's ability to do so and the sound we hear is just the rattle of a 3rd gen diesel..... a little different than the 1st and 2nd gens.

yeah i started noticing the rattle after i added a muffler, kinda like you guys have been describing. I didn't know exactly what it sounded like from watching the videos till i heard it myself on my truck. When the truck was straight piped i didn't notice it. The exhaust was too loud, but now that it is somewhat quiet i can hear it right before the boost comes on, then it goes away.

I drove a CR the other day that belongs to a member here (He doesn't get on much)

06 CR with Flux 3's and Dual CP3's, Stud, and a single 64....Stock pistons and HG.....I could hear his rattle a good bit too before boost came up....

I DO think that decompressing them makes it worse!!! It has too, given the cause being related to Pilot Injection....

problem is Swole.... that doesn't help figure out the cure if there is one. Obviously lower compression is adding to it but, it's in trucks that are stock.

At this point I could care less about curing the Rattle, I just wanna figure out this freakin Power / Boost issue......I worked all day and installed my RP gauge finally...Couldn't test it on the wet roads so I don't know if we got it yet....Gonna test in the morning and see as long as the road are dry....

If it's not fixed, I'll be spectating at TS!!
