Who Has the Rattle / Clatter / Knock etc???

Swole, has your new found power made you accept your rattle ??? Haven't heard anything from you about it lately :poke:

Well, I will say that running the 11.47 and the 11.54 both at almost 118mph on my Very First Passes did lesson the desire some!!!! LOL

No, but really...I just haven't had time to do the injector washer install yet...I still plan on it, It's just that everytime I go to Jeff's he puts me to work!!! I don't mind really...I'm learning so much...Also, It feels good to pay him back for everything he's done for me so far!!! I won't let him pay me.........YET!!! lol

I'm still going to search to find a fix, but if it ends up being ecm / programming related....Well, I may just have to live with it....No money in the budget for new ecm and such....Just had my taxes done and I OWE $2000 to the IRS!!!!!:bang:bang:bang:bang:bang

I have had this truck since new, and hand calculate every tank of fuel. I now have 76k on it. When running right I could pull my empty 5600 lb. gooseneck flatbed and get 16.5. When it started having problems epmty I would drop to 10. Even with a single axle trailer that weighs 800 lbs. and my 1700 lb. utility vehicle it will drop to 11 mpg. I am going to buy one more ecm and not leave it bone stock and see if it still has problems. If I cannot figure it out after that the truck is going to be traded in on an 05 dually I have picked out.

not sure what you're expecting but, my wifes stock 07 QC is lucky to get 14mpg pulling nothing but itself. Electronics are what enables these trucks to gain the mileage they do. There's several other factors like mods, tire psi, weather conditions...etc that will help also.

There a lot of info in this thread and several others about the rattle. Most of us have been into our motors. If you haven't and you're having the same rattle.... it just shows it's closer to normal than not. Many of us have been concerned about what damage may come from it but, personally have moved on from worrying about it

Well With the new stix The raddle is the same as the 3.3's. Just to throw that out there. The rattle is not bad at all. Although, the Smarty Is on SW1 Rp1 timing 4. Still in the middle of doing retorques.

What size did you go with again??

I'd like to go a little larger too!!! Don't need to but now I'd love to bust a 10!!!!

Wow, I found the rattle for sure! I've been having problems with my RP being too low cruising but it ramps up once it lights. Well my puck is shot so I put the smarty on rp4 and it hit 20k almost instantaneously and ouch! Thing sounded nasty until the turbo lit. Went back to rp3 and the idle/cruise rp is back down to around 10-12k and doesn't ramp up till 5-10 psi is built and no rattle.
My guess is with the large injectors the low rp makes the pilot injection smaller so it doesn't rattle but with the right amount of rp it is large and causes the rattle.

hello all i have been reading your post and we had a truck that had a bad rattle, it turned out to be a wiring harness on the fuel rail pressure sensor. Also to address the other thing that i have seen cause the rattle is the gear on the cp3 pump. I Seen 2 trucks that did the same thing replaced the pump gear and still had to go a tooth at a time till it quit. the front cover on one of the trucks was completely off and you could push a wooden hammer handle up against the cp3 pump gear and get it to stop making noise while running. Just a little info that i know that has worked on serveral trucks.

Mine is a 5.9 and I had 56k the first year as I was hauling hay back and forth from Montana to the Oregon coast. I know what it had been doing for power, milage, etc., as I did not start having problems until about 40k. It also runs really high egt's set back to stock and empty. If I put my foot into up a hill I could easily hit 1300 degrees with the stock turbo and no trailers or anything in the bed of the truck. For that reason I got the new turbo and still the same. With the ecm change and the smarty jr. on power mode I could not get it over 1200 on the same hill. Once the problem came back I can hit 1200 just running from gear to gear. I think there are a lot more people with problems than what everyone thinks.

My wifes is a 5.9 also. 1300F on a stock truck is completely normal which is why you didn't see a big difference. It is getting hot but, that's how these trucks run. The newer trucks run hotter than the older trucks. As your truck broke in obviously things will change as far as mileage, cooling etc. You would hope mileage would get better and most of the time it will but, when towing like you say.... I don't think you can expect a whole lot

Both the Quad and Smarty will make it run hotter just for the fact they add more fuel than normal

It sounds to me like you just need a few things to make your truck more efficient. No you shouldn't have too but, what vehicle comes from the factory without the need for something. You'll probably have the same complaints with the 05 you mentioned.

good luck with it !

David I went with 215hp's. Also the smoke is about the same other then start up I guess

So that's a Flux 4.3.....Right??

Hmmm I bet I could bust a 10 with those after lighten my load a bit (spare tire, tail gate, less fuel and tools).......

Tempting!!!!

what happen to, man... I'd just be happy to break into 11's so I can run QD LOL

personally, I wouldn't even attempt going faster than you have without a full cage and 5 point harness !

You gonna be able to hang with me in the 1/4 mile now?

:hehe::hehe: Well My six-speed ran a 13.4 @108 with 2.2 crappy 60ft and the single charger. So I'm guessing the current set-up and an auto should beat ya by atleast a second or 2.

I guess the question Is are you gonna be able to Hang with the 98 goin down the dirt Track?:poke:

Yes that is correct. I would do it. I bet you'll gain some good power.

Yeah! I know!! I'm probably a Dumba$$ for Running 11.50's without a cage....I just can't see jacking up a nice truck like that...

It's just SO freaking addictive!!!! See'ng how much further I could go!!!

Now when I hit the lotto, It's Game ON!!!

I ran 11.08 with Flux 4.6's, and a truck that weighs 7150lbs with me in it.

I look at it as.... tomorrows another day. I plan to be doing this a long time and I'll get there eventually but, after seeing what happen to Gary....it's gonna be done right! If you stay where you're at... I may just give you a run for your money in ole red :-) hmmmm.... 11.5 on 37's

You wouldn't have to jack your truck up. You could send it off for a custom cage that doesn't undo the interior :rockwoot:

I better quit while I'm ahead....I owe the IRS $2k by April 15th....

10's would be SO sweet though....
