Why No Garretts on 3rd Gens?

Anyone know somebody making 600 hp on a CR with a Garrett single?

yep... i just dont know what model it is. Its custom so I wouldnt be able to tell you what it is either way! Just know its a large garrett making over 650hp on CR.

I run a GT4094r as the secondary in my twins. At 80lbs/min, that puts it as the same air as a SB or super B special; however it spools much faster and at a lower rpm than the 66's and will support the same HP.

There is plenty of info on what a SB or super B special can support, just know the 4094 will do the same, but is more useful as a DD, is better in elevation due to the responsiveness and towing is a breeze with it. Very smooth. There are simply too few folks with any real experience with them so the knowledge and experience base is small--- folks tend to gravitate to what they know and have heard about.

There are usually about 4 A/R choices for each turbo by Garrett to help "tune" the turbo to each individuals use. I have found that the Garretts use a larger A/R on the EH than comparible turbos, yet spool faster on average. One can simply check out the compressor maps on Garrett's website to see what I mean. I use a .95 A/R on mine.

From my experience with the GT4208r as the primary in my twins, I can see it easily being a streetable single. It would behave similar to an Aurora 5000 in spool yet flow about 113 lbs/min. Again, there are 4 A/R's to choose from too.
I think that would be an awesome sled puller turbo for those that must run singles.

I guess it seems that Garrett kinda builds these things for each user instead of throwing a few standard wheels and housings together like Industrial for example. I tried to look for Garretts by searching Google, but I coudn't find any real applications for cummins.

No, they will just market the stage 1,2 and 3 and call it for cummins. You can get any turbo you want that they list on their website, just like getting from any other mfg. and they will work on your cummins. You simply have to choose the correct one for your application, just like getting any other turbo. Generally speaking you will be looking at anything from a 3082 or 3088 on up to a 4202 for a single and from there add a GT45, or 47 as a primary in twins.

you can get them all set up with the Cummins v-band discharge and 3rd gen or HX40 outlet?

GT40s come with a 3" V-band on the exhaust are a T4 based turbo and you can pick up a DBB for ~1800 new

a GT47 is pushing 3000 and runs a 5" V-band exhaust

i know FI can do stuf to the EH i am sure some of hte other shops can as well.

What Malibu said above-- there are a few shops selling Garretts that modify the EH, if needed, to accept the standard outlets of choice... it is really not a big deal.

95% of buyers want a bolt-in option... a 3" v-band discharge and a T4 or 5" outlet isn't "bolt in". Which is a very big part of why there aren't many Garretts on these trucks... especially on 3rd gens which have a higher percentage of owners who won't do anything that isn't pure bolt-on

So you can't order any Garrett they make with a T4 discharge? I figured you could just spec something like say a GT4088 with a T4 and 5" outlet.

You can get almost any of the bigger garretts with a t-4 flange and a five inch outlet. Just go on there website and look up the turbo you want, all the options are right there on the page.

Soulzoo-

Do you have a video of your truck running with your Garret twins? In cab / out of cab/ both ?

Not really... never thought to do so. There was vid taken (no sound though) at Dog Days last year, but don't remember if it even showed the turbos... not a big deal though; they look a lot like anyone else's twins for the most part but with water coolant lines.

I have a couple of vids of 1/4 mile... it's a camera video and no sound. Again, no shots of the turbos. I can tell you they are loud as heck. I got on it in front of the fire station once and all the firemen come running out to see what the heck was that! :Cheer:
