Will 2.8" hang on for a long time, or will it soon cease to exist?
Brandon

Yes, since it is about the max the factory driveline will handle.

We dont have a 2.8" around here. With the way the 2.6" class is growing in both power output and class numbers I see no reason for 2.8" to stay around. 2.6 is getting close to the limit of what stock driveline can hold. 2.8" is already there.

To me

2.6" stock driveline
3.0 or open single open driveline
Mod.

I guess I should have said with upgraded parts, the factory appearing stuff seems to hold.

I agree with everything Johnboy said to a T.

I'm 99% sure the 2.8 class with at least one org. around here is going to switch to 3.0 Open driveline.

me personally it seems the 2.8 class gets slimmer and slimmer each year. As much power as most of the average 2.8 trucks are making I don't see how they get a oem style driveline to hold up. As for cost effectiveness, I would just jump up to the 3.0 open driveline class and weld a rockwell under thier trucks along with a drop box and reverser. Most 2.8 trucks are running a bush 2.8 charger anyways, so why not just move up a class and beef up your drivetrain? Also the 2.6 class and 2.8 classes are beggining to seem like the same trucks on the track. With the bigger jump between the 2.6 and 3.0 ODL classes, I think it would be a better crowd pleaser seeing 2 classes with quite a few differences, rather than seeing 2 classes that seem almost identical. Those that do not want to jump up to the 3.0 class could just drop down a charger to the 2.6 and might possibly save money by not having as much power to break driveline parts. But again thats just my $.02

It wont stay around not with the s400 2.6 trucks everywhere there is no need, make a 2.6 class run 2.6 chargers again then there will be a need. These s400/2.6 trucks are pointless.

Well if they are a true 2.6 then I think they will be fine.

Exactly if there was a 66mm class for hot street driven trucks like the 2.6 class was designed for there would be a reason to have a class that pushes the factory driveline.

I can see the idea about the 2.8.

Right now we have 2 classes of non streetable trucks on factory driveline at least the top 5-10 2.6 trucks arent driven and are running 3.0 turbos. They need to be the ones stepping up to 2.8 and giving the street guys their class back.

I agree!

I think it will. Last pull I went to the 2.8 trucks looked awsome and put 50 plus feet on the 2.6 guys that tried to pull with them. I agree on the 2.6 trucks needing to be true 2.6 trucks. No bushings should be aloud.

which org's allow bushings in the 2.6 class? I know Scheid allowed it at SDX this year, but most org's i've seen do not allow a bushing in 2.6.

what about:

ws= factory charger, no hanging weight, some kind of suspension travel weather it be 1" or 2"

2.8= true 2.8, no bushing, factory fuel tank mounting, must be inspected, hang weight, solid blocked suspension

SS= unlimited single, open drive line

mod= like it is now

There needs to be more speration of the classes. this year at scheid it was 30 SS trucks and 150 almost SS trucks. and 10 triple chargered tube chassis.

I could go for that too. But dont agree with the 1-2" travel rule in Workstock.

He probley means 2.6 covers. I agree, this 2.6 class is getting crazy. Im guilty if the s400 w/ 2.6 cover. But why would i not do it? The rules allow it. But all we are doing is discouraging people to pull in the 2.6 class unless they have a killer set up. I would jump to 2.8, so i think the 2.6 class needs to be fixed. Let them run an off the shelf 66mm charger and let the rest of us who dont want to go back to that jump to 2.8. i hope it doesnt disapear.
