Wrinkle side walls

That part I gathered.

I was looking for:

Grind outside edge of caliper at a 45* angle until the ridges are gone and boom now the wheel fits.

Maybe ill just google this for myself.

Depending on the back spacing on the rims. I know the 17x12 Ion Forged thAt we run required a substantial amount of grinding for them to fit. So I find it very unlikely 16's will fit. Even with grinding. As well if you run much narrower of a rim. It is useless running a 390-40-17 tire as you will have a substantial amount of sidewall bulge. Rendering 1/2 the tread face useless.

Torrey, you would be supprised as to how easy it is to make the 16's work. Grind the back calipers and remove the front guard

I kinda decided against a wrinkle wall but I haven't decided on a tire yet and really like the width, rim size, and price of the M and H street/strip tires. I dont know much about tire technololgy. Can anyone tell me anything about the compound on these two tires? Pretty much my only 2 questions are which one is stickier and which one will last longer. I understand one tire will most likely last longer and the other will probably hook better. Just curious which one.

Thanks, John

I ran some massive street/strip tires like those on the 2nd link for one race. They didn't hook at all. They were old and that may have been part of the reason, but I wouldn't go that route if I were you.

Good read, i'll take on this expense soon as well.

Yea, old tires suck! Especially old racing tires. Were the tires you ran M and H's or a different brand? Thanks for the reply though if they get hard after a year I would be ok with that. Especially for that price. $1000 a year on tires isnt bad at all! were the tires you ran more then a year old?

I'm gonna revive this thread. I've been looking around as well, and Weld seems to be the main choice for 12" wide, extremely expensive, and prices just went up again on them a few months ago. I'm trying to find weights on the few cast 17x10 wheels I've found, but it's turned out to be a challenge.

I might be wrong but I thought one one of the Toop's trucks had 16's and some 1.5" spacers on a CR. Maybe he can chime in but if you could run 16's it'll be a lot cheaper. And easier to find tires. I think I'm going with Hoosier quick time pro's 28/14.5/16's.

Check out Centerline Wheels. They make some great Rotary Forged wheels that are strong and lightweight. Also caliper clearance will vary with the wheel, some may fit with little to no mods while others may require extensive mods. A lot depends on the design of the wheel. The guys at Centerline can help you a lot with fitment and may even have a blem wheel they can sell you to verify fitment. I did this with my Tahoe when we were installing a big brake upgrade and they sold me an 18-inch wheel for $25 to use for fitment. I ended up using it as my spare for the truck...

Isnt there pullers out there getting custom made wheels cheaper than those Weld wheels?

Real Wheel has 16" by what ever width, back spacing you want. I think they are around $300 a piece.

Thats Matt Scotts truck. I helped put those on. I personally didnt like the cutting of studs to fir the spacers, or how much the caliper was shaved. Im really interested in the MH 390/40/17s myself.

I run the m and h wrinkle walls on all four corners, and a few guys around here! They seem to be fine, I run 27psi in them up front, but it seems like any issue you have in steering or in my case I've had the converter locked up and loose boost and it chatters the converter and sends the front into a Nasty death wobble at 100 mph isn't fun and also those slicks are hooking up swapping side to side during the death wobble is not fun!
I run mine on just 16x12 Mickey thompson classic IIs I think they have em in a 17x12 too and there cheap! I got a pretty good deal but I only paid around $600 for all 4!

There's a bunch of us up here running them for superstreet, last year my ford weighted 6400lbs, cutting 1.55 60fts no problem, Richard pullled a 1.44 60ft a couple weeks ago in a dodge 12v 4x4 @6000lbs

NHRDA has a good pic of his truck launching that shows the rear wrinkling, I'll see if I can find it.
