Critique my first hook of the season... Need some advice.

Kman you really seem to try to defend all the cheaters a lot.

If it's a brush pull and nobody is teching or cares what would you do? If it was me and made the haul and got the chance to hook twice I would do it you wouldn't? I guess your the perfect moto of a sled puller huh? In the other thread I was simply stating the fact that there is no palce for a true street truck anymore.

If there is no rules or tech man then anything goes. Thats how I see it. The two I pulled at I ran water. But no tech man so its there fault.

I guess that is the difference. If you want to win and cheat, wow what fun is that? Pushing the rules and disregarding the rules are two different things.

Well jsut stating the fact no one cared so why not. The class was no bars, no hanging weight, no blocks class. If the tech guy can't see that and DQ you then what the hell?

Ask the folks who brought their stock turbod, no ladder bars, stops etc, if they cared.

Well tell them to speak up! Kinda doubt any of them guys were ther because of the prize money. Don't think Hodler is trying to make his house payment with his prize money. Remember back when I first started pulling just with a few mods. I would have to hook with Hodler, Strothcamp, Jahnsen, and Cole at almost every pull I went to. I wasn't crying and complaining because they were beating me I wasn't expecting to win. I even enjoyed watching them beat me. I think convicted clearly said that ther were alot more guys then Hodler that run the stock class including him.

Why do you think this is an anti hodler post. There were several in that class that should have been in the next class up. Rules are made to establish boundaries for the classes. Do you want the pulls to progress or just go back to run what you brung classes. I remember alot of folks on the show me smokers were whining about RPM limits in the 2.6 class. I don't mind getting beat, but if I get beat I want to get beat by a truck that meets the rules

Never said it was i was stating the fact I would have done the exact same thing. Got a second chance to hook why not obvisouly no one was teching. if your gonna make rules and not enforce them then who cares. Show me Smokers rules are enforced. I was also one of the guys saying they should get rid of the RPM rule because its extremely hard to enforce that rule. I just think alot of guys would of done the same thing Hodler, Convicted, and Bradshaw did i would of pulled both classes. In matter of fact I've done it a few times.

I'm gonna answer all the posts... But I wanna make this VERY clear right now.

I DID NOT PULL FOR MONEY!

I TOLD THEM I WANTED AN EXHIBITION PULL TO TEST MY TRUCK.

I TOLD THEM MY TRUCK WAS NOT LEGAL AND THAT I WAS NOT GOING TO TAKE A CHECK IF I PLACED!

DO NOT LUMP ME IN WITH THE OTHERS!

I guess it is ok to break the rules as long as you don't get caught is what your saying?

ok got my chance now! Its called honer system! Just cause its a brush pull doesnt make it right! Jason and I have been called cheaters from this very same guy that ran this class, matter of fact both the SOBs that ran this class. I wouldnt be a bit surprized if bradshaw was spryin. Cause i know he has had a bottle in his trucks before. Its still cheating! David did the stand up thing to pull for no money! And if you want another hook for a test run, most of the time Scriv will give you one! You dont need to cheat to get one of those! LOL I think its funny *hit anyway! So yeah im with Dan on this one!

Wes always ran 3rd locked up. What you hear at the end is the converter unlocking. Sometimes its hard to even tell when the transmissions shift, if you have a fairly loose converter and are in 4LO.

As far as the video of your pull...
It sounds like to me that it jumps right through 3rd gear into over drive. I notice in your signature that your truck is an 05. For some dumb reason the 2005s do not come with the option to lock out overdrive, which of course is what you want to do when pulling. On all other trucks with the exception of the 2005 models, you have both a tow/haul feature and a OD lockout function. It has been my experience with my 47RE that if you just lock the converter manually with a switch, it will quickly shift up through the gears. Before I permanently disabled my overdrive, a couple of times I forgot to turn the overdrive off before I pulled. My transmission would stay in 3rd or "Drive" only for a second before shifting to overdrive, where it would kill out.

My advice is to first figure out a way to disable the OD. There are a couple of options that I know of. Dodge has a TSB out that will allow you to be able to lock out overdrive. Unfortunately, you will lose your tow/haul feature as it will be replaced with OD lockout. Here is a link that explains it in more detail.
TSB 21-006-07 The other option involves purchasing a module from BD Diesel which can be found here BD Power - Product: LockOut Overdrive Disable

After you are for sure able to lockout overdrive I would suggest that you start your pull out with the selector in "2". Spool up as normal and let it eat. Eventhough the selector is in 2nd, your transmission should start in 1st (unless you have a manual VB). Once the turbo spools the truck should quickly run through first gear and shift to 2nd. About as soon as the transmission hits 2nd gear, flip your switch to lock your converter. Once the RPMs climb to an acceptable level, go ahead and manually shift the selector into "D" (be careful not to go to far and put it in neutral  A ratchet shifter would be a good investment). Your transmission should shift to 3rd with the converter locked. Since you have OD locked out, it should stay in 3rd until you unlock the converter. If you can, let the truck spin out in 3rd with the converter locked. However if its going to pull the RPMs down low enough to snuff the charger, go ahead and unlock the converter and keep the hammer down until you stop moving. This has been a tried and true method for me. Granted I have a 12valve and a 47RE, I think the same process should work well for you also.

THIS is exactly the information I needed...

I had my suspicion the truck had gone to overdrive as well... I just needed somebody else to back my assumptions up.

I'm ordering the BD Overdrive Lockout first thing in the morning... And I'm gonna give that a shot to see if it helps.

THANKS FOR THE GOOD ADVICE AND INFORMATION!

Ok next time I hear of a brush pull I'll send the information to you so you can make sure the off the wall rules are enforced.

Hodlers Dmax out pulled the maroon truck in the stock class.
The black dmax was like 314, he had redline problems with the maroon truck in the stock. The maroon truck took 3rd in the open.

I think the big money was in the open class.

Yeah... My apologies... I thought the Maroon one had just barely beat out the DMAX.

Either way... He was 2nd and Third.

I think what he did was tried second on the low and timed the Redline out... He had smoke during spool up, but nothing down track...

Seems to be thats what happens when the Redline Box times out from what I've seen in the past.

David, watching your vid, i agree with everything josh said! plus give your truck a little more boost and add a drive pressure gauge to your setup, tune it right, i think you have the fuel and tuning to get you down the track. a bigger charger would help also. give me a few weeks here and ill have my turd back together! ill try and meet you at a few of these pulls and try to help out! call me if you need anything

Thanks again for all the help bro...

I'll be getting the DP gauge ordered tomorrow as well as the O/D lockout.

You've been a big help through all this... I owe ya one!

Hopefully Don will get your injectors back to ya soon and I can get to see that truck pull in person!

in the open class the sled adjusted weights to hit full weight just past half track

Any chance you got a video of my truck? Maybe you got something from a different angle or better audio that I could check out.

I dont need them, cause i wouldnt pull a STOCK, class, cause i know my truck isnt stock, see where dan is goin with this?

but if you seen all the other guys there start pulling the stock class would you? I wonder out of how many pullers that were there how many of them met and followed the rules? When I have pulled the stock class I did not take the money it was just for the fun. Last year St. Charles county me and Tyrel teched all the trucks in the stock class and decided we would pull for the heck of it and had 10 guys complaining in 5 mins when the announcer knew we weren't pulling for the money just to have fun and entertain a few people.

Are you gonna start pulling alot more convicted? If you are ditch the tires.

As for the "cheater" debate...

How about taking that pissing match elsewhere and not clogging up my thread with it?

There are a few other threads going about rules discussion right now... Maybe those would be a better place.

I gave up on arguing about the rules because there ain't a damn thing thats gonna make everybody happy.

I did what I needed to to clear my concience, which was admit that my truck wasn't legal for the class... And hooked for the sake of testing my truck.

Some others didn't.... Thats on their concience.

I will say this. Hodler, Bradshaw and myself were NOT the only ones in the class with aftermarket chargers...

Are you gonna start pulling alot more convicted? If you are ditch the tires.

Yes...

I have a set of BFG All Terrain T/A's in 285/70/17 that are waiting for me at the tire shop.

I just didn't have time to get them put on after picking up the truck from the body shop Friday night.

The clear was still tacky when I picked it up.. And it's still gotta go back for wet sanding and buffing.

Should get time to get them thrown on this week.

Is that a decent choice of tire in ya'lls opinion?

I would maybe go with an even wider tire? maybe a 33x12.50. I was hooking with mud dawgs when i started and ditched them for a STS and started doing extremly better.
