70.5 Camaro Tube Chassis Dmax

RPM Motorsports

Just another Duramax!
It was suggested that I give the Camaro its own build page, so here she is.
We started this project seven weeks ago with a pile of 4130 tubing. Cole at Dow Brothers and I have been thrashing one day a week, since that's all I can right now. He has the chassis table at his shop, and it's a 2+hr drive each way. Here are a few pics of the progress and parts. I'll try and keep most of this updated as we progress.

No more Dzus pins, broken springs or finding a tool. These things are pretty bad ass and push button.

While you're at this stage, I say take a page from JP's book and get as close to 2350 as possible....as y'know, that's a minimum weight for a certain class....;)

JP's truck is sitting 10' away from the Camaro. Camaro should have no problem hitting 2400lbs. The full body is 135lbs, the chassis kit was less than 400lbs.

Awesome! What's the plans for this one?

Make it as lite as possible and see if we can break into the 11's :woohoo::woohoo:

I built the Nova to compete with Dirty Max in Pro Stock, Brad had to throw me a curve ball and bring out the Willies, retiring Dirty Max. The Nova is about 1k heavier, and don't want to cut it up, so the Camaro will be the new Pro Stock entry.

I say it weighs 2700 with you in it.

Definitely a nice piece. Might look into carbon brakes.

I assume Rod at Spec-Rite is doing your converter?

How much less was your billet block than a filled iron. I was told mine is 165lbs less. I'll have no coolant, lines, water pump(s) or radiator, but will have an oil cooler.

It's not the block that's going to surprise you in terms of weight, it everything else you got going on there.

Even my rail weighs 2100lbs and still adding weight to keep front wheels down, everything is carbon and lightweight junk. Our truck set all the records at 2800lbs.

Your alumimum Block is approx 100- 125 less than Filled cast, ours was made a bit different and slightly lighter block. Iirc you have steel main caps?

I say you can get it close. Single turbo, one nitrous bottle, get your daughter to drive, etc LOL
