Changing superstreet to a 10.5-10.9 index class

My thoughts are, if you have a 10 sec truck that falls into the superstreet rules, run it. If your trying to grow the sport and fill the class then run in it whether you have a chance or not. "If" my dakota ever gets into the tens, i would run superstreet. But, my truck doesnt meet the rules. So super diesel is my goal for now until a 10.90 class is created. I would run that for a few years then maybe step up to prostreet. Anyways, I'm just one racer with an odd truck trying to have fun with the rest of you guys.

Guys those who haven't raced 11.90, please give it a try. Tons of fun and great racers. If we get a faster class good for now that is what we have,

THE ABOVE DOES NOT ADD ANY ADDITIONAL CLASSES!!*bdh*

11.50 = Super Diesel

10.00 = Super Street

8.50 = Pro Street

EVERYONE THAT SHOWS UP HAS A COMPETITIVE CLASS TO RACE IN!!

For the life of me I don't understand why you people fight this:doh:

You got my vote.:snoop:

Your voice would be heard a lot more if you were at the events, that goes for everyone. We all ask for lots on our keyboards, but voices in person, having your trucks at events, showing them there are enough trucks for a change.
Problem is others who do show up and run events are also asking.

I wish it was that simple. I would run SS however I do not meet the rules as my truck was originally built to PS rules. So my options are try and dial a high 9 to bottom 10 truck back to 11.90 or option a) rob a bank to try and run faster to compete b) travel to a event and get knocked out while hoping you don't break...

I agree the class is great and I like running both SD and SM in my daily driver. I am not going to pull a truck across the nation that is built on 17" slicks, caged to 8.50 and no longer streetable. So tell me where the incentive is to build the next level for the average Joe?

Racing isnt only about going fast. A high 9 low 10 sec truck can still compete in prostreet. You can still win races if you cut a better light, the opponent red lights, breaks, or you get a bye run. A consistent driver and truck are a bigger threat on the track then the driver and truck that are pushing for that record setting e.t and mph.

And how many races you run in PS the last 2 years and with what truck?

The only slow truck to win in the class this year was H&S due to every one else breaking in the first race of the season.

Jeff Garmon won a load of races when he was doing it, never was fastest by a long shot, good lights and making rounds got him a long ways...

Like I said earlier 2 years ago it was anyone's race if you could run mid to low 10's. Its not the case anymore.

More often than not the truck that wins in Prostreet isn't the fastest one as they usually don't go rounds. Have to agree with Khaoskustoms on that point. What times do you run with your Prostreet truck Runninlean?

Best slip to date is 10.20 at 140mph coasting through the traps after grenading the chargers @ the 1000' mark. The truck has the power to compete if I can ever figure out how to keep it together. The events I have been at in the last 2 years I only made it to the eliminations once. I made first round elim's this year at Ennis but only because I replaced the tranny in the pits that morning. Then broke the trans again running against Darren in the Mamba. All of this a week after a bad wreck in testing and trying like hell to get it back together to make the race. This is my sob story. This thread just so happened to start up at a time where I was seriously evaluating if I had the resources, finances, or the strength to keep trying to be honest. Again maybe I am just way out of my league and should just walk away.

Im not looking for anyone to make a class for me. I just know in Texas alone of 6 or 7 trucks who would fit this proposed class. Of those 6 for sure trucks 1 is already up for sale, myself and 2 others have discussed just running local brackets even though we want to run more diesel events but just cant afford to keep trying to run into the 9's. We seem to be able to keep things together more in the 10.40 to 10.60 and slower ET's. If my only other option for competing nationally in a diesel class with out going broke is 11.90 then my current build is a waste of time and money.

I agree with you 100%!!!! I hate to say it, but if Pro Street would slow down to a 10.50 class these trucks would definately go rounds. I've got several people interested in the TaTa truck right now. Just trying to hold out for something that I don't really know what that may be.

Kelly, we've chatted and your one of those guys. You haven't attened a nhrda event in 2 or 3 yrs. You have a 10.8 truck and you don't race it at events cause you think you can't win. The rest of us still go out there and try. Nothing will change until we get the truck count up. You and other want a better class that fits. Good post Shawn, There are others posting in this thread that have not raced a NHRDA event nor plan too, but they may still have good input. I wish I knew how to increase the truck count, but I don't. Damn things are so expensive to make go fast at weight. I'm kicking my self not going straight to a funny car. I may bo so if something pops up and just make the El Camino a fun street ride.

Actually this was the first year my truck didn't run at Edmonton and that's because it wasn't running. But, I won't spend the money to travel when there is zero chance of being competitive. If all I'm trying to do is run personal bests I can do that locally. Yes people break, but in div 6 you need about 6 of them to break. I'll go back to what I said earlier, what they're doing now isn't working so continuing to do the same and say people should spend thousands of dollars to support the sport seems strange.

It was still 10 second trucks that won both division 6 races this year... Neither one has ever had a 9 second pass to date.

I know for me it's tough to make races when the nearest race is 500 miles away and fuel is over 4 a gallon here again...

Defiantly not a cheap sport just hard for.some to stomache fuel, lodging, entry fees on top of building a truck and then have to compete with some of these other dudes.

I'll be the first to admit that I haven't been to as many races as I would like to have been. Between my trucks and the economy nothing had worked out much in my favor in the last two years. But again I feel like I fit in with the "average" dude trying to go fast.

I think we should try Greg's (dock boy) idea for at least one race this coming year, that would be the Indy race. It gets the most competitors from both sides of the country and would be a great place to try it. Run what you want, just don't go faster than the index and have the correct safety equipment for the speed and time. Simple, everyone who wants a change will have a venue. If no one shows then we put this all to bed. I see no negative to this. The points will apply to whatever class you would normally run if the index class rules were not in place so the national points system isn't messed up.

What do all of you think?????

I like it because of the flexibility. All the debates about class rules go away...hood stack or no hood stack, fuel cell or no fuel cell, too much weight or not heavy enough, wastegate discharge through the cowl or into the dp etc... Just have the required safety equipment for the index and go. It let's people build what they want...as long as it is safe.

I think Indy would be a great place to try it especially since Dennis is going to be putting it in as a class at TS there should be quite a few trucks in the midwest built and ready to run it.

It my understanding that TS was going to try as 10.50 index? I'm talking about 3 classes to replace the super diesel, Superstreet and Prostreet classes for a least one race. 8.50, 10.0 and 11.50

Yes TS is just going to add a 10.5 index. As far as NHRDA I think leave the 11.90 index then go to a 10.5 index and leave Pro Street the way it is. That way the guys running faster then 10.5 have the option of either slowing down to 10.5 or jumping up and running Pro Street.
