cr or 12v towing

I have a 100K on the CR swapped into my F250 6 years ago, a lot of it pulling. I haven't touched a thing and its dead nuts reliable. I haven't even really finished the swap ! It just runs.

The key to CR reliability is clean fuel. My engine has had a 2 micron filter since new.

And mine did too. Both CRs did and all filters changed religiously. Its a crapshoot when it comes to CR injectors IMO.

CR all the way.I've got both and I always take my 07 5.9 . My mods are geared towards towing of course. Efilive, studs, compounds and a exhaust brake are the main factors.that and the drw set up and 4/10 gears.squirt some Meth at it when your pulling hills......all good.now obviously I can't bring my CR back to life on the side of the road with minimal tools but,I like nice seats and cold AC

I carry a spare with tools. Just unplug your pressure reg harness on the cp3 with the valve cove off and you'll see really quickly which one is toast.bout a 30 min job to change a CR injector.

Its not hard to change them out i know but i just dont like having one just up and quit. 1 second everythings great, the next your CEL is on and your on the side of the road. Even with a 2 micron filter between the stock assembly and the CP3, i still had dropped injectors. after 4 years in my 06, i just didnt want to deal with them.

If you have to carry around a spare injector with you, that doesnt speak much about the reliabilty.

Ive got 2 CRs best vehicles I've ever owned. My 6sp dually toes my big trailer 70 mph with the cruise set all day long. I just have a smarty, airdog, 62/65, SB clutch and gauges. Ive had 12 Valves and I like my CRs and I havent had either one apart yet. 03 has 157k and the 04 has 133k

Having towed with both

my five speed 96 was a far better trailer tower than my 05 auto is.. But the CR drives sooo much smoother than the old truck... its a tradeoff depending on what you like, sheer torque, or creature comforts.. either will tow what you hook to it tho... or bury its wheels trying...

that being said, theres a reason my CR is the tow/work rig in my stable, and will continue to be..

I think towing with an auto CR and a manual is night and day. I used to use my 03 which is a built auto with 4.10s and it doesn't do near as good as my 6speed dually with 3.73s does. Maybe its just me though

I tow with a 04 CR at work and for leisure my 95 12v. I prefer how my 12v feels with a load behind it but the comforts of the CR are better IMO.

CR with a 6 speed they have a boxed frame, disk brakes, 4 real doors and easier to drive with a load. end of story

Now that I pulled the Quadzilla pulse and the Smarty off,my injectors have been stable for over a year.the spare just lives in the tool box.just in case.I went through 5 injector bodies in two months.Efilive by Starlight diesel is the best thing Ive done with my tow rig.hands down.the crappy tuners are the only problem I've ever had with my 07,its been built and USED HARD for 40000 miles at about 550hp with zero major issues aside from the injectors.my 12 valve has 380000 miles on it and still tows hard with injectors, governor spring kit,intake/exhaust, southbend clutch. The 07 is just much smoother of a ride for long hauls and the DRW is nice. Of course you can toss a 12 valve in whatever ya want

I wouldnt exactly call them 4 "full" doors. We all know dodges version are just extended extended cab doors! LMAO

Thats the reason im building a fummins although the new dodge true crewcabs are quite spacious.

That is why you buy a mega... end of story!

Idk where everyone gets CRs have such bad injector issues. I have 2 on the original sets and I used to work at a concrete company with 30 CRs and I think I put 2 sets of injectors in in 2.5 years. All these trucks get used hard and have between 120k and 500k. They all have Fass systems or Air dogs and other then that are stock. I guess we just hear all the bad on here.

i've had 3 CR's, 1 had stock injectors with 140k on them, ran great. the other 2 had to replace the injectors. in my 12 valve i have not had to replace much of anything that was factory, just performance things. and my 24 valve w/nv5600 which i tow the most with handle's loads great. but it has performance things done to it..........the story changed... to a I6 and a manual trans...:hehe: I also had a LLY with 5spd allison, i didnt like the way it towed, so i went back to cummins/manual trans.

I kinda hate shortbeds though....... and im not gonna drop the coin to do the conversion.

I haven't missed having a long bed yet. I don't blame you for not paying for the conversion though.

I just didnt like the 2 instances where mine dropped out of the blue. I ended up getting 5 new in one instance because my mechanic at the dodge dealer was in a hurry and replaced all of bank 1 since he wanted to go home and ended up breaking 2 connectors on 2 in bank 2 also.

20k miles later, another dropped injector(one of the new ones) when i was on the way somewhere and that sealed the deal for me. Dont get me wrong, I wouldnt mind having a CR again, just didnt like the injector issues i had personnaly. Thats why i like my 12valve.
