Dicking Around . .

That's a solid update. What pressure is your 392 producing for the mighty VE?
When is the first trip back to the track scheduled?
I've got the bypass type fuel-pressure regulator set at about 19psig. It could be pulled down to about 16 or so psig @ WOT.

- The IP case-pressure drop during the WOT is more concerning. ;)

I think I'm gonna just drive the truck and enjoy its "Peppy" characteristics for a while. Try not to get a ticket doing so.

Dunno. 2021 is still quite wet behind the ears. Might have to weld armor-plating to the thing. Fill the tires with expanding foam . . . .

I'd like to say I've been regularly driving the mess while tuning and dialing-in stuff but, it's been raining since getting it on the road. Looks like rain/snow showers for the next while.

Because that's how shit works around my house.

A notch concentrates all the force that a engine block experiences at that notch point. If it fails, it will mostly always fail at the notch. It's good insurance to grind those out, and cheap too.

I've managed to put a little over 400 varying speed miles on the heap. I like to think I'll be changing the oil in the next few days. Need to do a thorough visual inspection of all the stuff attached to the long block looking for loose stuff.

- Gotta replace a leaking pass/rear brake caliper flexible hose. WTH!

All in all, everything's good so far.

Maybe upgrade to some stainless lines from chassis to caliper? It would suit the build.
Oh, it's Stainless Steel plumbing on the axle. The stuff is only four years old.
- Fancy SS braided flex-hoses. The passenger's has gone to leaking where the flex-hose goes under the banjo-fitting's ferrel.

I'm just about tired of the rain.

Naturally, the stainless steel rear axle brake plumbing that I run does not use the stock/OEM 2001.5 size brake hose fittings. As such, I can't use stock/OEM replacement hoses.
Gotta go back to the stainless line vendor.

I found the packing-slip from when I purchased the SS brake-line set. They're from FineLinesinc.com. Come to find out they've a lifetime warranty. The folks at FineLines are sending me a complete replacement kit at no charge.

Cool.

Well after a "Weather Delay", Fedex managed to deliver the replacement lines.

It's rained steady for days now and there's more to come well into next week.

With that, I'm just driving the long way, locally, to put some more miles on it.

Thus far everything appears to be working correctly with no odd noises or vibrations. I like to think the rain will subside and we'll get some dry weather such that I can clean under the truck and climb under it for a thorough inspection/tightening session.

We'll see, huh?

Bored-stupid at the moment. Can't find any sci-fi movies that I've not seen.

- When I assembled the TwinRam intake, I thought I could reuse the two gaskets that go under the grid-heaters. I thought wrong.
Blowing them out playing resulted in a couple of BIG boost-leaks. Tapped-out a couple of replacements to fix that.
- Every one of the cab-heat, trans exchanger type hose connections have eventually wept at least once. WTH?!
- When I assembled the Fluidamper, I flat failed to locate/confirm the tic-mark I made on it representing TDC. Crap! Had to get the wife to pull the engine over while I leaned on the timing-pin. HAH! Come to find the tic-mark was there where it needed to be. (One in four chances of getting it right). I still need to make and affix a new timing-tape. https://www.blocklayer.com/timing-tapeeng.aspx
- Checked/set the valve-lash again.
- Changed out the break-in 10W30 lube-oil for the regular 15W40 plus a Zinc supplement. New oil-filter.
- The new engine is approaching 1000 miles. I still don't have the nuts to beat on it hard like I did the former. That being said, I have wound it up under load to 35~3800 and it runs smoothy. :rockwoot:
- Been dialing-in the transmission over-drive and converter lock-up points for regular, normal highway driving. The converter lock-up has been the challenge trying to stop unnecessary smoke under low RPM loads. (Getting under the turbos gets smoky).
- Started doing a little IP tuning. I think a typical throttle-mod has been a big contributor to case-pressure sag @ WOT (in my case/application). Dicking with it briefly has a sensible seat-of-the-pants improvement.
- I've a couple of data-logger sensor/wiring issues I've got to address. I really need them working right to make better sense as a tuning tool.
- The phacking monsoon in NC has finally taken a break. With that, simply as a pleasant change from working under the hood, I polished the rims.

It must be noted that the local track had their 1st TNT of the season last week. Oh my. :badidea:

Constant tension clamps or worm drive on the leaky coolant hoses?

Wheels look nice. Rest of the truck, well, you know. First gen problems.

Welp, I managed to blow out the front freeze-plug.

Front-Freeze-Plug-Failure.jpg

I ain't into the billet-mess with the less than quality O-rings so, I did me.
- Cleaned up and installed a new freeze-plug as per standard proceedure.
- Took the old freeze-plug and drilled a 1/2" hole in the center of it as an aid for future removal.
- Heavily sanded the outer periphery of the old freeze-plug so that it would fit loose.
- Installed the old freeze-plug backward to the new so that its dome/dish was sitting just proud of the block.
- The engine fan's mount sits in front of said freeze-plug. It has a recess where it spans said plug.
- Installing the fan mount, its backside is just in contact with that reversed plug thus it holds the plug(s) in place.

We'll see, huh?

Freeze plugs blowing out, concerns me of the headgasket seal.

Did it blow water out the radiator overflow also?.

Might have gotten the heap up to 3500 or so in the most recent time. No bubbles in the reservoir.
It's fixed and running just fine. :)
