OK, here is the "Rest of the Story".... As Paul Harvey woudl say....
First, if you have not met John and his crew, they are the funnest bunch of Texas good old boys you have ever been around. We hit it off the first time I got a call from him months back when he was building the car, and he had a bunch of questions on how we did ours, and what to do. I tried to help as much as I could, and he still thanks us for saving him a lot of hard work on not going the wrong way on putting the car together.
ANYWAY:
Yes, John blew not one but 2 turbos, and then stuck some pistons. He and crew pulled it down, scrounged up parts, and got it running for the final round.
We blew the turbo off the car in the second pass, and had to clean it all up and get ready for final round. When we warmed it, we found that we had blown a seal in the trans to overdrive, so knew we had no 3rd gear. We figured we would at least make a pass for the crowd.
We came up to the line, and agreed to have John stage first, as he has no trans brake. He went in, got spooled, and Dustin then crept in. Dustin hit the throttle, and the engine went to 30, then 40, then 50, then 60 pounds of boost against the converter. If you see the video, you will see the car then creep forward as the stator in the converter exploded, locking the converter up. We got a redlight just as the tree lit up.
Dustin ran it through 1st and 2nd and clicked it off.
John made it down the track, and when he shut it off, it locked up.
I think I have video of the pass, and will try to post it up as soon as I get back home... Still on the road.
So, do you want to amke a small fortune racing a diesel dragster, START WITH A LARGE ONE, right John?
Had a ball......
