Late build thread. 94 rcsb street/strip

Well I’m late making any post on my little truck build. So here it goes. Truck started its life as a 94 3500 rclb 4x4 auto dually with 3.54s. When I bought it, it had been converted to a single wheel truck and was lifted 4 inches on 35s. Immediately lowered it down by removing lift and cutting coils/removing leafs and blocks. It was a bone stock truck other than a junk cai. So with the help of a friend we bumped the timing, afc mods, put a set of 5x12s in it and beat on it till the trans let go. That’s when the build started

So we broke down the 47rh and built it with some compd parts, it got a billet flexplate, dpc triple, billet input, billet output, billet small parts, upgraded clutch counts, billet Belleville spring, got the governor gone, and a ppei extra deep pan,CRT Trans brake comp valve body, with a cheetah shifter. At about the same time the decision was made to go ahead and sell the running 160 pump and horse trade for a core 215. The 215 got sent to Seth Farrell for 5ks and rebuild/max balance and the old 5x12s were traded via compd for a set of contagious 5x18s. We then decided it was best to shorten and I traded for a shortbed and sport grill/bumper. While we shortened, we cut every single plate crossmember from the cab to the rear out of the truck and went back with what we had, some 2 inch steel welded back in. We built some tractor top link style traction bars, tucked a aluminum fuel cell behind the rear axle and mounted a nascar eBay plate style cooler under the new short bed for the transmission. Went ahead and welded the Dana 80 and swapped both shocks to the rear of the 80. We set her back on a used set of 20s with nitto 420s on em. 360k miles, stock stall converter and a manual vb with a baby 63sxe on it and the fuel dialed way back

So after a few highway pulls the stock head gasket decided to start possibly on the passenger side externally. So change of plans. Sells the 63 and bought a 72/87/.90 off here. We weren’t plying with it anymore. From day 1 this truck was supposed to be a HOT street truck/fun track truck. We decided the little 63 wasn’t going to give me what I wanted out of it so off it goes. The 472sxe is the new direction now. At this time we pulled the head and had it surfaced and went ahead and port/polished it. Removed a good amount of material and then cut the head for orings. Installed the new head gasket and slung the head on her with a set of 425s and orings , and 150lb springs and torqued to 125 then 2 hot retorques to 125. We also figured we would lighten her up some more at the time so out goes all the ac stuff under the hood(didn’t work anyway). So now we have most of the issues worked out of the truck, fresh headgasket, built 215, steed,472, 5x18s, semi built transmission etc etc etc. well to make a long story short I couldn’t get on the converter so out came the trans and converter goes back to Phil at dpc for a cut/clean and restall.

So now after owning it almost 3 years she is shortened with roll pan and sport grill bumper, lighter weight, 472, steed, oringed head with 150lb valve springs, arp 425s, Seth 12mm, 5x18s, no ac, no heat, no cruise, home built tappet cover, 2 vented valve covers, motor is resealed, built trans fmvb and transbrake, lowered on ugly 20x9s with 420s,22 gal fuel cell, home built caltracs, welded Dana 80 weighing in full of fuel with me in it at 5900 lbs. fuel cell is 22 gallon since it is still driven on the road. Timing is set on 20 degrees and right off the trailer it went 7.67 first time at the track .later that same day it cut a 1.69 60 foot spinning on old 420s(almost 3 years old)and ran a best of the day 7.44 once we bumped the fuel up to 400ccs. Gonna run the fuel pressure up and bump the timing to 24ish degrees with the fuel at 400 and see if we can get her down toward the 7.20 mark. It has been a damn fun time building this truck and even more of a riot to drive. Big thanks to my ol pal josh and my daddy for all the help! Next up is paint and shave a little weight with a hood stack setup!

Time slip from the best pass I made this last weekend. Never mind my reaction time just trying to get my launches down at different boost levels to see where she likes it. This was at 30 with the foot brake

Yeah man I had a few issues right out the box when I got the valve body but John got me ironed out very very quick. Now if I have a question I just shoot him a message on fb messenger lol. He has been helpful for sure. Now with the 2500 stall converter I can run it up to 34 on the foot brake and she shakes the tires almost every time. I have to get it figured out how to grab and cut the 60 down.

The preload you put on your traction bars will play a big part in your 60ft. If you've got them too tight, the weight won't transfer correctly and you'll basically sit on top of the tire and just spin. Check into putting limiting straps on the front end so it doesn't raise up on the launch and you're able to use your front 2 tires to their full potential. Also I would recommend getting a good set of radials or cheater slicks. Plenty of guys out there cutting 1.4X 60ft on a Hoosier DR2 325/45/18 DOT radial.

I definitely want to do both of what you mentioned. Would like to get some decent tires on it. And I would like to play with the traction bars/tire pressures to see what I can make happen with a 60 foot! Do y’all think i should run the boost just as high as I can launching it or find the best consistent pressure/rpm and stick with that? Like I said it was the first trip to test and tune and hopefully I’ll have some more data to play with this weekend if I can make the track again down here.

Can you upload to YouTube and post the link?

If not I can give you my number and you can text them to me. I’ll upload them
