I've heard that before as well. Is there any truth to it?
 
Personally, $1500 is not expendible. Is it just the fact that they don't have steel ring lands in them or what that makes them non streetable? I know they also shrink and expand a little more than a cast piston so until the motor heats up you will get more blow by but once they heat up they should seal fine.
 
Question.

If a guy is briefly hitting 1600 degrees every now and then will a forged piston outlast factory stuff in a super hot street/strip application?

And if so how far would that same guy get between tear downs?
 
FWIW, the gasser guys seem to say 30k between forged piston rebuilds...


Used stock piston (6631) weighed 1215.4g tonight.
