Weekend on the Edge Aug 19-20

Actually KMK I will have to disagree with you about pulling isnt big back here, actually pulling is 10 times bigger than drag racing here. The main reason drag racing isnt big here there is no sanctioning group to put on a race here but once a year.United pullers has grown tremendously from maybe 20 trucks 5 years ago to 50-90 almost every weekend around the state. As for the truck pulls saturday night great turn out but there needs to be a rule change about trucks jumping classes, in my own opinion only the winner of the current class pulling should be allowed to jump classes this would keep the crowds from getting bored watching the same truck pull 4 times in different classes- wow that part really was a drag. But overall the drags and pulling were great.

Very good point, when I started pulling about 5 years ago there was only a couple trucks per class and a handful of pulls a year, it has came along ways since then, but compared to back east we are still not as big and not as many shows, but have some good running trucks that make for heck of a show. As for the racing part, true there is nothing for racing here. Like I have said for a few years, some of the biggest names in diesel performance are based out of this area, but yet not much sponsorship, its all from the shops like you, addicted, moonlight ect. Its good to see more stepping up like Edge, Premier, and II but seems there still only on the big events like weekend on the edge. I bet in a few years there will be alot of diesel only pulls around here and it will continue growing alot more.

NADM...I hope you don't mind some constructive criticism about the event. I've been to WOTE as a spectator and to help the WOP guys in the past and always had a good time at the event. This was my first time towing my truck up to race and we were surprised at how things went.

First, note the following information...
- From the NADM website: Friday, gates open 4pm and racing starts 7pm
- From the WOTE website: Time: Registration/Tech starts at 4:00 p.m. Racing from 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m

I'm not sure how anyone else interprets this, but to me this says that we will be spending the time from 4pm until 7pm getting in the gates, getting registered, tech'd, etc. Nowhere does it say that ELIMINATIONS start at 7pm. Every other type of racing I've done specifies when you will get ON THE TRACK. I know for a fact that I'm not the only person that was frustrated by this.

Compounding the issue of when people were expecting to start running was the fact that it too a bunch of people in the neighborhood of an hour to get through tech. Frankly, the fact that we had to pay 2x and fill out paperwork 2x was a big part of it. It would have significantly sped up the process if you had collected the extra $10 at the gate (racers only pay once) and had the front gate hand out the extra paperwork so we could have filled it out with our tech card. This would have left the tech line for ONLY vehicle tech activities and should have sped it up significantly.

As a racer that was not there to compete in any of the "paying" classes (my truck is still in the early "dialing in" stages), I was very frustrated with the lack of information about how the "Time Only" trucks were going to be run. I specifically asked if there was a specific lane or if T.O. trucks would be called over the PA. I was told they would be and never heard them called. The only announcement that was even remotely close was "if you have not yet run, get to the lanes now"...the last call announcement before the drivers meeting. I did make a point to specifically ask about T.O. trucks at the drivers meeting and was told to follow the Unlimited trucks up to the lanes...but then the guy running the lanes told me "just come whenever you want". It boiled down to the right and left hands not knowing what the other were doing.

All in all, WOTE seemed to be a successful event. The turnout seemed to be good (I didn't get to watch much). It was pretty warm and would have been significantly better if the qualifying had started at 7pm after it started to cool off. I think arranging that with RMR for future events would make everyone a whole bunch more comfortable and track temps for the trucks that care would certainly be better.

I will say I was very frustrated with track prep at RMR. I am a local to RMR and have been running there the past couple weeks to get my truck dialed in. They didn't seem to care much about track and, right before I ran my losing pass in teh quick diesel class, a time only truck ran and leaked oil of some sort on the track from the burnout box to the starting line and then who knows how far down the track from there.

The officials proceeded to mop it up, with mops, and then told me to stage even though I tried to object. It cost me the race. I went up in smoke off the line, even launching softer knowing I was in a bad situation and still went towards the wall. This is not a jab at NADM, it's a jab at RMR. I have definitely given races away from red lights or other driver error - and supported the edge event (racing, dyno, sled pulls) since before NADM ever teamed up with the event. RMR simply doesn't seem to care much about the event, which was apparent from track prep to their overall organizaion for the event - and has been this way the past couple of years.

Overall I enjoyed the event. I placed 3rd in quick diesel, 1st place for GM dyno class, and I guess 4th place in the sled pulling, by less than a centimeter I was told - in the super street class.

I want the events to continue. I've been participating in them all for years with my truck. I'm glad we had such a huge turnout. It would be awesome if we could book the racing on a Saturday next year. I would bet money the number of trucks that turn out for the racing portion would beat even the 94 we finally got in the gates and racing this year by a considerable amount. Just needs a little better coordination and setup so everything is more organized. That was the biggest complaint I had, and heard through everything except the dyno event.

I apologize, it was probably me that leaked fuel on the track in the left lane. Had I known the factory steel feed line had burst, I definitely would not have made a pass. I wish the RMR guys were watching the starting line a little closer, I can guarantee that had I been dripping any fluid on my way to the the starting line in Las Vegas, they would have immediately backing me out of the staging lanes.

Once again, I apologize.... First time I've ever left a fluid on the track in any vehicle.

This is the pass that the fuel line came apart, was this right before your final?

Both the race and pull had HUGE turnouts, both spectator and truck. The venes were perfect although need more parking for the pulls. That looked like it could easily be solved in the future though. HUGE thanks to NADM and United Pullers for the event. Hope to see yall next year. Congratulations to Lynn Ross for for her first place win in quick diesel, and Chris Kendall who won ET on friday night and WS on saturday night.

Thanks Greg! Both Mike and I had a really great weekend, winning Quick Diesel was definitely the icing on the cake. We just got home a few hours ago. That was one heck of a drive out there and back, but it was well worth it!

I guess this is the best place to put updates from this event:

Yup that's the one! :poke:

I'm irritated with the track on this one big time. I know nobody would intentionally go up there and put something on the track, especially for a full pass - I am irritated though that they didn't do anything more on the starting line especially than smear it around with their nasty mops before having me stage despite objections. I guess I could have refused to run and took 3rd place anyways....? Live and learn! :evil

was Camomax, (Matt Handwork) driving the bone shaker?

Yes Ken, we made a few attempts at getting it down the track but was fighting a bad fueling issue. Best passes was a 9.03 and a 9.21; on one of them we never even got egt's over 1000* lol. We hope to have those issues iron'ed out for Topeka though.

Want to thank everyone involved with hosting the event, we had a great time. Obviously wish things would've went a little better with our Pro-Street truck, but that's why it's called racing and not winning. The truck in the right lane in the first elimination round doubled staged and put Zane in a panic to get staged before being timed out. Don't think the driver in the Dodge did it intentionally and there are no hard feelings. Either way, no having a pinion or trans brake in the 2wd truck is hurting it off the line, brakes just wouldn't hold and it red lit. Zane lifted just before the 1/8th mile knowing he wouldn't receive a time and was already d/q'd. Logger shows it was at 112mph when he lifted just before the 1/8th mile cone. Truck crossed the stripe just before the Dodge in the next lane that pulled off a pretty impressive 10.50...

We'll try again next time, thanks to Edge and the NADM for putting on the event, stands were pretty full and it sounded like the crowd had a great time, as did we.

Here is the Final's round in Quick Diesel. I'm in the left lane. I let out right before the traps because I knew I was ahead of my opponent enough to get the win, and just wanted to be sure not to break out.
My time: 12.1 @103mph (R/T: .062)
Right lane: 12.6 @ 115mph (R/T: .146)

looks like tons of side exhausts this year, last year they they were making everyone put turn up on or they couldnt run

Hey big blue do you have a vid of the time trial you ran beside me. I was the green smith diesel performance truck. I would like to see a vid of my 10.24 run.
